Did the sound go for about 2 seconds every now and again for anyone else, particularly in the begining?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,731 ✭✭✭DadaKopf

Did I imagine it or was it announced as "The first episode"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 113 ✭✭Red Soup

i missed the whole first episode, as usual, because i only got in at 10  .
and then the sound starts messing up when hurley is talking
and finally, just as things start to get exciting, the picture totally goes and static for 2 minutes

damn RTE. i get them through aerial

    good episode, though

The announcer gave away the story line before it even started last night.
"the boat gets burned leaving distrust in its wake"
    or something like.
SHUTUP! I dont want to know untill I see it.

ya i thought it was something wrong with my tv the first couple times it happened

I purposely leave the mute button on right up until it starts to avoid this, it is incredibly irritating. I suggest u do the same!

i dont really like the fact that they have started to show double episodes now. I will be over quicker and soon they wil be nothing to look forward to watch. And anyways, it kept me wonderin for a week about would happen on nxt weeks episode. I tink its only because RTE know that Channel 4 are now showing Lost and the following episode on E4!!.........Oh yes and the sound was Crap!!!.............GRRRRRR

Dodgy sound... I thought they were blanking out 'naughty words' at one point. Although to the best of my knowledge, they don't use naughties on Lost. Crappy sound it is then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

I must be on RTE's time as It was on when I turn over at 9:01

    [edit] **** missed 5 mins [/edit]

    Yes sound was ****.

That's America for ya: torture and murder are OK but say the word "f-u-c-k" and there's an angry mob outside.

I had it set up to tape and it went all cocked eyed, Lost started early and I had not rewond the tape enough.

In the second episode what happens after Hurley goes into the forest after talking to Siyad(sp?).

How do you use the spoiler thingy-me-jigs?.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

[ spoiler ] then what you need to say [ / spoiler ] with out spaces
has he meet up with the French Girl at that stage? He tells the english guy that he is worth 150 million dollars. The english guy doesn't beleive him.

Which is worse Bastard or Bitch? (Off the topic, but TV3 alway bleep out Bitch but never Bastard)

I hate these type of announcers. when they're not telling me what is going to happen in the rest of the series, they feel the need to practice their stand up routine and crack daft f*ucken jokes. this new type of announcing seemed to start over on sky one about two years ago, and it is now omnipresent. even bbc1 do it.

FFS, just tell me what the programme is and then shag off!

    It is pretty poor,

"Now we have Lost, Episode XX "Numbers". This will be followed immediatly by Episode XX "Blah Blah" at 10pm"

    Simple as that.

I thought I had escaped the adverts for the following eps until last night and I saw next weeks Spoiler filled ad... I don't need to see what happens next week & In case anybody hasn't had the unfortunate misery of seeing such previews I won't spoil it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

Well just to complement RTE on something.

    1. Only having 3 add breaks during the double episodes
    2. Double Episodes :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 602 ✭✭✭soma

Well I'm fortunate in the fact that I dont really watch much TV outside of sitting
down for a specific show (e.g. Lost, BSG when it's on) so I've a good chance of
missing these spoiler ads but occasionally they do pop up while Im watching so it's
either a case of a quick channel-change if i have the remote handy or in one case
(when I didnt have it handy) I just left the room! :-D

I think the double eps are great, lost really benefits from them I think (altho it means I have to tape
them now as I get home too late from training), and thank god
they have lowered the amount of ads. I'm an existing O2 customer & those constants Ads made me
want to change network providers! ;-)

I'd consider them both about equal, but it's one of the wonders of the modern age that swearwords related to women seem to freak people out more than there masculine equivilants. Dick, for instance, has almost gone mainstream, whereas the C word still makes censors swoon in the style of a Victorian debutante. Unless it's on Sex and the City, because for some reason when Kim Cattrall says it it's okay.

I am very, very cranky about this weeks spoilerfest trailer. I'd stumbled across sketchy details about what's coming up, but RTE graciously filled in all the details for me. Wonderful. How come our British friends got nifty dancey Portishead ads, and we get spoilers? Aw well. I guess we've got a half season on them that I can console myself with, but I'd have bailed on TV altogether if the DVD had been out in time. Probably could buy it far cheaper online, but I wouldn't trust my dodgy dial-up connection.

It was happening this evening on ITV3 a bit, so if you were watching RTÉ2 on NTL, it might be them and not RTÉ

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,657 ✭✭✭trishw78

^^ are you saying NTL have taken it up on themselves to edit shows after the watershed

It's been happening all week on RTE2, every programme I watch on RTE it happens. I don't expect it to be fixed anytime soon considering that the RTE radio music bursts on Radio 1 and 2FM have been going for about 2 years now.

I don't think the problem is with RTE
As I said earlier, I have RTE on Sky Digital and the sound is perfect, always.

I have Chorus and the sound problem has been happening on and off for a while now on different channels. Or at least, i think it has.

I personally love the double episodes. The one problem I had with Lost was that it moved too slowly, given that each episode is an hour long. With the double episodes, I finally feel that I'm getting an appreciable dose of the action. Keep it up RTE.

I've also noticed this starting early thing too. It's only a few minutes, but it can be enough to throw you off

I am very, very cranky about this weeks spoilerfest trailer.

C4 are showing simlar adds, and they do spoil the show. The dancing adds where their to promote the opening week.

Strangely while i watch RTE the most I alway seem to miss the LOST adds. suppose its a good thing.

It is a problem with RTE transmission. The sound dropping isn't happening with RTE1 or any other channel on free-to-air. Clearly if the sound isn't dropping on Sky then something's going wrong between wherever the signal splits off to go for Sky digital transmision/free-to-air transmission and where it's actually transmitted free-to-air.

The conclusion is that it is RTE's fault seeing as they run all transmitters.

Just because cable viewers are having similar problems on all channels is just coincidental and unconnected.

I would think that if you are having a problem across all channels (visual or audio) that it is not the indivdual broadcasters fault but your Cable Companies.

I have only noticed it on RTE TWO.

I must check to see if the same problem is happening with the TV up stairs that does not have cable.

If it is not a problem on FTA then its NTLs fault.

I also would conclude that it is a problem with NTL as RTE haven't appoligsed for the lose of sound. Punk'd last night had terrible sound. RTE might be bad but they always appolised for bad quality sound and vision.

I won't even pretend to be an expert in the matter, but maybe your aerial isn't set-up to the optimum direction.
My parents had a similar problem (it was sound and picture intermitantly and randomly dropping) and it turned out it was caused by some trees that had grown and were blowing in the wind and interfering with the signal!?

I'm a telecommunications engineer so I know what I'm talking about! Sound won't just suddenly drop out for a second or two leaving a crystal clear picture on an analogue FTA signal.

Read the rest of the thread, everyone on FTA is having the same problem on RTE2.
