    Hi folks,

Apologies if this has been asked before. Anyone know anything about getting a job in the US? Specifically as a post-doctoral researcher, either in industry (preferably) or academia?

    My field is physics/chemistry/semiconductor industry.

i'm more concerned about the visa side than the actual finding a job side, but if anyone has any suggestions....

    Thanks!

Looked in to it and the story is the Visa's are graded from "You have no skills at all" to "Only person in the world who knows this sh*t". You fit in in the middle assuming you have a MSc. Alot of Visas are given out to industry to bring people and the rest pretty much go to people who get hired by a company and that company hire an imigaration lawyer to get you the Visa.

You may find that you can get in on an educational Visa and as part of that be paid a research grant (not a wage).

Either way you need sombody to take you on and sort it out for you.

This may not be the way you want to go, but CIEE has Professional Career Training programs.

The job you get is up to you, ie. you control your job search, but they sponsor you for up to 18 months. Downside is you pay for them to sponsor you, about €500 each 6 months. But it might be a good way to find a job with someone and give them time to fill out the visa paperwork. Visa applications are turned in March or April I think, for visas issued in October.

Looks like the program partner in Ireland is USIT @ 19/21 Aston Quay
