Anyone hear the ads on the Radio this morning saying "The Metro is coming"? Anyone know what they're about?

I was half asleep so maybe I missed something.

    Got this somewhere...

"Associated Newspapers, owners of the Daily Mail in the UK and Ireland on Sunday here, is to launch a freesheet newspaper here in the next few weeks, according to a report in today's Irish Independent.

The report speculated that the new Metro paper may be launched in co-operation with the Irish Times.

Associated Newspapers already publishes a Metro freesheet in Britain and will be seeking to repeat its success here."

It's available from local shops / tube stations in London.
I presume they'll have it at cafes, bus station, luas stops etc...
    Should be interesting.

It's a daily newspaper in broadsheet format, and surprisingly good for a free paper. The one in London covers the major news of the day, and has sport and entertainment sections, including full telly and radio listings plus a What's On guide for the evening. It's about 16 pages, iirc. The London one is well produced and is not chock full of ads like the free local papers, which are only good for lining bird cages...

It's probably the best newpaper in London.

Just heard that the radio ads with "The Metro is coming" were actually for a broadband product from Digiweb.
Turns out the Metro newspaper is still tightly under wraps.
Still, nearly everyone thought it was about the paper.... best free advertising I've heard in a while :D

I thought that ad campiagn was for the paper too. This mornings Sunday Times has a feature which mentioned Dublin as the market while the ad says all five cities plus Dundalk I think. So no freebie for the sticks then...:(

the Independent group is getting a spoiler ready.

    Mike.

They stopped it a while back.
I think UCD banned the magazine and others probably followed suit after some very controversial articles.
It was probably one of the best things I remember about college though!!
We used to wait in the College lobby waiting for it to be dropped off!
I remember they brought out a "Best of" compilation you could pick up in Tower Records for around a tenner a while ago.
Who will ever forget the infamous "Blacks in the Jacks" article / cover

OK so let me get this right, Digiweb ran an ad that everyone thinks is for a newspaper?

How fecked up is that? Honestly some companies would be better spending their marketing budgets on drink and fags.

yup - a teaser campaign for their Broadbrand product was reported on many outlets as a teaser for the new free Metro paper.
I only got a mailshot from Digiweb today, but rumours have been going around for nearly a month now on a free paper called the Metro, so everyone just linked it to that.
People linked to the paper declined to comment.... and probably because their were too busy laughing at the amount of free publicity! :D
