ya its my mobo thats the problem, pulled out everything besides the processor and got an ff error flashing up on the mobo, this means that the bios chip could be blown, probably got a power surge originally that blew my bios chip and my power supply.ah well komplett rma here i come..

this is a common problem on this epox board, the only remedy is to hold the case power on button and plug the psu in, if you rma this mobo get another brand because its going to happen again.
some people say its because of the demand on power the cpu needs on startup.

also when you just had the cpu in did you have ram in aswell because you will get ff at startup normally then its ok, it will be a constant FF with no ram.

usually then fault is that ff flashes and the northbridge fan spins a bit then everything cuts out

Hi I got an epox EP-5EPAJ mobo as part of an upgrade kit within a couple of days of use got the same thing, i.e. ff code on LED tried diff power supply got same and out of box bare bones build and got the same. Back went the board and got a replacement board and everything seemed fine except when playing games as I got the exact same problem (sys appears to power down, fans still spining though and dvd drive wont open when eject button pressed and ff displayed on LED) after 10 to 15 minutes mins of game play ran memtest on the RAM passed ok so have sent the board back with a request for a similar spec board from a diff manufacturer if possible but havent heard back yet defo think its the mobo hopefully you wont have the same prob with the replacement.

i updated the bios and no difference, but it doesnt bother me because the pc spends more time on and i always tend to switch it off at the socket

i heard that its a certain version of the amd 64 that needs a good bit of juice when starting up, thats why when you instantly start the pc after pluging in the psu the capasitors are fully charged for an instant hense the pc starts ok

i assumed it was i needed a beefier psu so i got an antec neopower 480 and it still didnt sort the problem.
i may try a bigger amd 64 later on in the year and see if its due to the cpu's start up power requirements.;)

btw its a 3000+ i have, i think 3500+ and onwards have a differnt codename.

    and here

Posted a review of the board on Komplett but they never published it.

Good luck and keep us posted,

no difference at all tbh, same mobo but with extras bundled in like round ide cables etc.

    my setup is
    Epox EP-9NDA3+
    Amd 64 3000+
    2048mb ram
    nvidia 6600GT AGP
    160gb Hdd
    antec neopower 480w psu

neons etc going off the psu aswell so its not a problem with not enough wattage.
