Ah yes, the joy of an all-night research binge. I can sleep later from 13:00 to 18:00, but must remain awake for work at 08:00. How will I keep awake for the next hour?

Just call up work and tell them you're too sleepy to work today, they'll understand.

sure I'll go in and tell them I have to go home.

Hey yeah, try - "Ooh, I have to go home to get something... can I go home and then come back when I've gotten it?"
You can later explain that 'it/something' was 9 hours sleep... and they can't sack you because they agreed you could come back after you got it.
    It's fool-proof!
