Well, i've decided to hand in my notice(i think), but i'm a little unsure as i don't have another job to go into.... :o

I'm pretty much pissed off with this place now, and i'm going to give two weeks notice with the hope of finding another job within those two weeks, i already had an interview last Fri, it went well and i'm quietly confident i'm going to get a 2nd interview, but obviously it's not a dead cert. Plus there's a few other jobs i hope to get interviews for in the next week or two.

Anyway, am i risking it a bit too much? The only worry i have is bills, but once i get my pay here, and backweek and holiday pay, that should last me for a while, i have a really good C.V and i'm good at interviews (practise makes perfect :) ) so i don't think i'll have a problem getting another job, it's just the fact that i don't have one yet!

Rule number 1. Never give up a job before you have another. I'll start you off with 3 really good reasons:

1/ If you don't get any of the other jobs you could be screwed.

2/ Not having a job/putting yourself in a position where you "have" to get one of the other jobs will add pressure and you may come accross as desperate in the interview.

3/ It's always easier to get a job when you already have a job. It doesn't look good if you left your last job for no apparent reason.

This is so true, I walked out of a job about 3 years back and it took me about 3 months to get another one, was worst time ever.

Friends, family and work colleagues said the exact same thing to me when i decided to leave my "well paid, respectable, steady job" without having another job to walk in to. But these people are unwilling to face up to the fact that their lives are meaningless and boring.

Sometimes you just have to trust your instinct and go for it. There's more to life than working in a place where you are not happy. Find what it is you are good at and enjoy in life and pursue it with a passion.....the purpose of life is a life of purpose.

    .

i think thats a bit much to sat that most sensible people are boring and their lives are meaningless.

the fact of the matter is that it is easier to get a job when you already have one.

its these sorts of statements that make me think that posters are 12 years old.

yes, theres more to life than work full stop.

im not so sure about your christmas cracker philosophy, but if it works for you, then good on, you but dont go around tarring everyone with some misguided brush...

Maybe he's not 12, but having a mid life crisis?

But anyway OP, you seem to be looking for reassurance and conformation that you're doing the right thing, rather than practical advice......so i'll give it to you.

If you didn't like your old job, then by all means you should leave. It probably wasn't a wise move to give your notice before you had a job lined up, but it's not the end of the world, and you seem confident of getting that other job you want.

Even if you don't there are plenty of jobs in your area of expertise anyway, so i wouldn't stress.

Like you said, you're good at interviews, you have a top CV and when all your payments come through you'llbe comfortable for the time it will take to get a new job.

    Good Luck :)

(Try not to spend to much of your rainy day fund though ;))

well, here's the story... I work sun-thurs, i was out last thurs and sun because i was just pissed off with the place, went back on monday(by this stage i had gone to the first interview with this other job, i was waiting for a call for a 2nd interview), all i got on monday was crap off my supervisor, i even did ''return to work counceling'' So i happily got that second call to go to the second interview for the job, YES!

At that point i decided i'd take the ''risky'' route and take a chance, i didn't go to work on tues, didn't even ring in sick, just completely blanked it,, went for the interview and hoped i'd get a call that same day to see if i got the job, i didn't get a call....... i decided that i wasn't going back to where i worked and that i'd wait for a call from the other job... RISKY indeed!! So i get a call and was asked to come in to a THIRD interview!, so yesterday i go in again, again i blanked work.... Was offered the job there and then:D

So, withing 5 days i have applied to a job, gone to an interview with the agency, 3 interviews for the position and offered the job, nay too bad indeed.. So i took the risk and it paid off, i guess i was pretty lucky,, i start on Monday.

I still haven't told the old job, my collegues know but my supervisor doesn't, **** her, she gave me a load of ****e the last few weeks, she can wait around for me..

Moral of the story, don't work for *******.

She does now if she reads Boards. You might want to edit the company name from your post.

Edit : I see Keyser's said it already. Congrats anyway.
