Abit AV8 3rd-eye Onboard Sound Card Problems

First of all, heres the board:
    http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/products.php?categories=1&model=201

I bought this board about a year ago and have had no serious problems (a few temperature problems that were fixed my a BIOS update). I just noticed today while watching a show on my computer that the voices of the actors were very low and muffled, and that everything else was crystal clear.

So basically I tried to tweak the Equiliser and Evironment settings using the software provided (Abit Audio EQ), but that didnt help. Next step, I just decided to reinstall the mobo drivers, which did absolutely nothing. Then I tried setting the sound output to 2.1 and got an old pair of speakers, plugged em in and basically got the same results again.

It's really weird that all other sounds besides the voices is perfect. I'm actaully stumped. Anyone have any ideas?

something like that happened to be before and really pissed me off. I found that i had a "echo effect" on all voices set in control panel. With my soundcard it has this driver that allows to modify just the voice channels, did you check that?

did you check that it's not just that one video?

I think thats what Abit Audio EQ is for, but i played with that and nothing. Are you talking about a windows or soundcard specific program?

    Windows automatic updates on?

Has a habit of updating things that dont need it , get the latest VIA sound drivers (assume is a VIA built in sound card)

err..so then wouldn't the problem just be with that one video? or am i reading this wrong.. are all videos acting like this?

    edit:// nm, re-read it:o

whats your speaker setup in advanced audio options (start -> control panel -> sound and audio devices -> advanced)

From my experience, on Board sound cards are **** and more hassle than they're worth. My onboard Realtek worked fine for aeyra or so then went retarded with scratchy noises, not playing sounds when it was supposed to etc. I got fed up and decided to buy a stand alone sound card. You can pick one up for about €20 from komplett these days, they're far superior to on board. Here's my soundcard

I can't be too sure because i'm not at that PC but i think it was windows based, i have XPSP2 (the joy!) :(

Got it fixed, i just uninstalled all sound drivers and associated programs and reinstalled them. There was probably a much simpler way, but at least it works again.

    Thanks for everyones input! :)

I would go with the opposite , Creative ****e gave me years of crap with lack of drivers , not working with game a b or c.

VIA and CMI chipsets ever since and not a problem since.
