will college be completely crap? I've never really gone out much or at all and I definitely want to socialise in college because I feel I've really missed out on that so far. But I'm just curious cuz the list of things for freshers week is all pub related which I'm still going to check out but sounds like it involves mass drinkage. Is there much to do for non drinkers? Just wondering.

not really. You can still do all that stuff on freshers week. Just drink coke, water etc. and laugh at the drunks.

Anyways, Why don't you want to drink?

Leave the good person alone, there is enough problems in the world, we don't need somebody else using drugs.

meh, went to college and still live there and i don't drink, it's only a big a problem as you make it. most people will say 'fair play fot not dinrking' and then try and get in your pants... but then again i am exceptionaly handsome...

College is what you make it. I know plenty of people and whose exerience of college is sitting in pub, constantly hammered. I admire them because they are doing what they want.

I know plenty of other people who are involved in clubs and socs and that is their social outlet. I admire them too because they do what they want to do as well.

Its what you make it and no, drink is not the most important thing to have when wanting a good time. But it can be fun from time to time

i didn't drink for the first 2 years of college here (then i got sense) and it was still good fun. im sure you've been out to pubs and clubs before this and not had drink and you've had fun? same thing in maynooth. though i have to admit drinking is a huge part of college life here because there's little else to do. if you were in a city like dublin or cork or galway etc there'd be more to do so it wouldn't be such an issue that you don't drink. either way im sure you will get in to it eventually. well done for not drinking by the way, i wasn't so strong willed.

Thanks for the kind words, I was half expecting lots of "WHY DON'T U DRINK U DRY ****E LOLLOLOLOL" type messages. I fully intend to enjoy college life, I was just wondering was it possible to get by without going overboard on the alcohol. I don't drink now because I honestly never developed a taste for it and also because though I want to have fun I like to remember the experience aswell :p

Well I went to a debs thursday night. All I drank most of the time was water and I had one coke, my self and the people I was with spent most of the time on the dancefloor or just being outside. The water was the only thing that really have kept us hydrated anyway, it was fecking roasting inside. Anyway most the people I was hanging out with didn't drink. They saved money and we also were way fresher at breakfast that morning then most people. Was an interesting lesson, just hope the friends I make at college have a similar attitude..

There are loads of groups and clubs to join, its not all about the drink.......but in my case it was :D
One of my mates never drank on nights out and always had a great laugh, at me most of the time. Its no biggie.

This thread is very encouraging, just goes to show you really don't HAVE to have drink to have fun. :)

I'm in Maynooth and I don't really drink. On a night out I may have one or two alcoholic drinks, but it's just Lucozade after that. For things like the table quiz n stuff I was sober last year and it was brilliant.
I found my biggest problem was with the housemates who were constantly trying to get Tequila down my throat. I dont like being drunk. You're just gonna have to stick to your guns here!

Of course you don't! You'd be a very sad person if you had to drink to enjoy yourself.

They should print this on t-shirts.

I fear the buyers would be beaten up.

I have had an odd relationship with drink, I've actually developed a taste for beer now but I don't like being drunk. I've already done the whole thing of getting drunk, dancing like a tool and getting sick (only got sick twice, I think that's quite good ¬_¬). Anyway my point is that now that I finally can drink a pint, without it taking me three hours because it tastes so horrible, I don't actually like being drunk. Some people actually have the confidence to do all the dancing shizz in clubs without drink, I don't, and now I don't like getting drunk just so I can dance, so in short, I don't like clubs anymore. Don't think I ever did. Jebus where am I going with this, oh yeah, basically I might have the odd pint, but otherwise I'm with you on the clean fun thing. (And yes I say this because I am going to college in Maynooth this year).

I thought it was great, but whatever.
So anyway you may or may not like to know that one of the first years living the same apartment as me is a non drinker and the 2nd year guy in with us isn't a drinker either. i thought this was quite funny, they must put us all in the same building..

There's always societies and stuff. I don't drink at all and I love College.

Joining Gamesoc is a good alternative, but please don't think that I'm biased because I'm on the commitee or anything...

Don't worry too much if you don't drink. I don't. As long as are not a social recluse, you will be fine ;-)
