    Hi all

Im here to ask any one out there if there is any way of getting Cheap parking in Dundrum
I find 20 euro a day For Staff & Customers to park in the Dundrum Town Centre carpark is a Rip off. Compared to a lot of other centres who dont charge customers & have detacated Staff parking. Drundrum managment are putting Presure on Stores to Open late Mon-Fri and they will not supply Staff parking funny they expect stores to open later for them but wont help out staff. for one ther centre is not as active as it should be & I and many others beleave its because they are charged 2 euro per hour thats Staff as well as customers its a rip off in all fairness 20euro a day for 6 days is a lot & for most theres your wages screwed. well any one out there got sujestions at all.

If there is any Dundrum staff out there I am willing to get a partition going for staff parking so let me know .

Their problem is proximity to the LUAS station. Without punitive parking rates, it will become a LUAS park-and-ride facility. All day parking is available in the LUAS station across the road for €4. Staff knew what they were getting into when they took the job - why is it assumed that every employer has to provide car parking for all staff? What ever happened to public transport?

    Get a bus - 14, 14A, 16A, 17, 44/B/C, 48A, 75

    http://www.dundrum.ie/

    http://www.dublinbus.ie/news_centre/dublin_bus_news.asp?action=view&news_id=477

16A operates to Beaumont Avenue, Churchtown. 16 is a bit further away at Kingston, Ballinteer.

Apart from that - the carpark in Dundrum is extremely dangerous! It is badly laid out! I've been there twice and almost damaged my car both times.

1st time someone absolutely flying up a ramp almost went into the side of my car. Note - NO road markings to show who has right of way here.

When you are leaving the acarpark - just after shoving your ticket in the yokey, if in the left booth there is a kerb that sticks out and it is NOT clearly visible. The rest of the kerbs have flags and all sorts of crap sticking out of them but this kerb is in an s shape.

Definitely wouldn't go back in there again - pay for parking and know that its only a matter of time before an accident happens there.

The minions are absolutely NO help - if you make any suggestions to them the say "Last week we were 200 and now we only 37". Thats all!

Why don't they implement a Parking Validation system? I know people could still just park there all day and go in and buy a packet of peanuts to get their tickets validated but surely there must be something that could be implemented. I for one won't be going near the place. Not because of the parking but because it's just a duplication of places like Blanchardstown and Liffey Valley (both of which have free parking of course :) )

I heard yesterday that they've reduced the parking charge to €2 for the first 3 hours. Can anyone confirm that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

Legally, parking must be charged for at that shopping centre. It was a stipulation in DLR's granting of PP. Don't know how much flexibility there is for staff. The stores & centre management should tr to arrange a Luas deal or something, of course nobody is forcing anyone to work there. :)

Find that place a joke for parking.. For the amount of security guards hanging around the carpark you think they could get it organised. Spent 15 minutes driving around it looking for a space a few weeks ago, when I finally gave up & went to drive back out this muppet of a security guard wanted me to pay for the honour...If they done like Swords & have the first couple of hours free it would help.Maybe after the first 3 hours have a dearer rate to still deter the all day parking.

This is slightly off topic but is there any bicycle parking in the centre?

Sometimes I lock up on a bit of railing beside the taxi rank but I don't like to do this because it blocks the footpath for buggies and wheelchairs. Sometimes I go into the car park and lock onto the trolly bay but I don't like that either because it clearly wasn't laid out for bicycles and it has various problems. Does anyone else have a suggestion?

Why should there be subsidised parking for staff? Pay like the rest of us! It's €2.50 ph on strret outside my office and even there you are only allowed park (legally) for 3 hours.

If the thought of parking in a housing estate 10 minutes walk from where you work is too much then you may be developing a health problem. Preventing people from parking right outside where they live or work is in the public interest as you are less likely to use your car for short journeys that could be accomplished on foot or by train. The less people use their cars, the fewer people die or become obese.

AND the less carbon emissions we emit and the less we support foreign oil and terrorism ... take the tram if you can.

This solution is only suitable for those who go shopping there as opposed to working there,
do your grocery shopping in Tesco after doing your clothes shopping,
spend €30 or over in TESCO and get your car park ticket validated in addition to getting a ticket for cheaper fuel in their petrol station across the road! It's brilliant.
It deters what I called wasters wandering around the stores with no intention of buying, clogging up the stores, because they have nothing better to do at the weekend. For people like me who hate shopping as much as going to the dentist, it's a nicer experience!

Tesco do have a parking validation system if you spend more than €30, but I'm amazed that it's such a primitive system - with a staff member fussing around with clipboards and euro coins. There must be huge scope for fraud.

There is a cycle park (for want of a better description) near the big entrance beside tesco, space for maybe 20/25 bikes. As you look at the centre from the filling station it is in the right corner. However last night there was a cherry picker parked there taking up a lot of the bike spaces.

The bike racks are the nice n shaped ones rather than the quadrant racks that are only useful for damaging your bike

They validate your ticket in a machine if you park in the "Tesco Car-Park". Since that was changed to include parking anywhere in the centre, Tesco has to pay for the parking, and the other machines won't accept a Tesco validation. Looks like Tesco isn't doing the business, and with a reduction in parking charges, it looks like the whole centre is struggling.

I couldn't believe it when the guy handed me €4 and got me to sign a docket. It definitely is open to fraud.

    About bloody time!
As part of the Planning Permissions for the Gort Mhuire Development, the developers are to widen the Wyckham Way from Sandyford Road to the Roundabout at Ballinteer Avenue to provide additional lanes in each direction as bus lanes, 2 way cycle tracks in each direction and footpaths on both sides of the road.
    http://www.dlrcoco.ie/Meetings/2006/DDTEDP/MAY06.htm
A critical observer might ask why they did not do this when they were building the road initially, but how could they have known there wold be so much traffic. You could hardly of expected them to travel out to Blanchardstown shopping centre and see what problems the buses have on the roads around the shopping centres out there!
No in this country we don't learn from the mistakes of others, we copy them.

There is also one at the mill theatre which is always over crowded, again with space for 30 or so bikes and its always full after 10 in the morning! Its not great if your on a 12:30-9 shift which i get about two or three times a week.

I agree with the posters above, parking is expensive but then again if you live close enough just cycle or luas it.

Its 2 euros for the first 3 hours.. Not exactly a massive deal in fairness.. If the staff all need to drive to work, why not start a car pool. Or how about parking along the road at Kilmacud?
