Wireless adsl modem + two wireless capable computer setup

I had a setup with a desktop computer connected via ethernet to my netopia 3347 wireless adsl modem, and a notebook connecting to the modem wirelessly. No file sharing in this setup, so i got a 3com usb wireless adapter . I had a network set up with wep on, pretty much let windows take control. I want to be able to access both the modem and the files on the desktop through the laptop. If I just set the network ssid etc to all the same, should they all have access? What options should I have chosen in the setup wizard (wasn't sure were they both considered as connecting directly to the internet, or is the modem a gateway).

    Appreciate any help..

 You say you had the desktop and laptop getting to the internet via the router? Why couldn't you just file share with this setup? Make sure you are using the same workgroup name and if XP turn off 'simple file sharing'.

Would the netopia 3347 by itself allow me to file share across the netwok? I though it would only allow access to the modem?

Yes. Ping from laptop to pc and vice versa. If they can see each other then file sharing is possible. Pop over to http://www.homenethelp.com/home-network.asp there are plenty of other resources on the web. Google is your friend ;)

Thanks man, got it all sorted. Just the wizards and set it as per that handy networking guide.
