    Dell inspiron 8100. XP. How do I disable the internal speakers when i plug in my headset

    Hey, I've an 8100 too! How does the headset connect to the laptop, the centre 3.5mm jack, or is it a USB type thing? Surely if it is a 3.5mm connection, the speakers turn off automatically, thats what mine does.

    Yeah, that shouldn't happen. Either its the wrong socket you're plugging it into, or theres some thing wrong with your mobo connections

    yeah once you plug into the "green" jack, your speakers should automatically turn off and direct the audio to the earphone jack

    You should have it in the middle audio socket under the PCMCIA slots.
