Im looking to get a good computer desk but not one of those poxy all in one units from bargintown or argos. Big and very sturdy with lots of room on top for 2 + monitors and DVD/subwoofer type storage parts down below.

Can anyone suggest where to buy such a thing?

I reckon Viking direct might have something along those lines

    Check here

Nice linkage, but those desks all look uncomfortable and not deep enough to me. :( I'm super fussy (aka anal) about my computer setup. Reckon I might build my own desk (despite being a DIY noob) when I move house in a few weeks.

Harvey Norman actually have some decent looking computer desks.

If you do find anywhere venom, could you report back? I'd like something somewhat U shaped so that there's room to either side of my arms.

    HOOK IT TO MY VEINS!

I built mine, couldn't find anything worth paying for.

I spent about €160 on materials, borrowed tools & spent 2 days at it but well worth it.

Bought mine from argos for 50 quid. Does me fine.

My dad got sooo lucky. His office had no use for this desk so he claimed it :D . Its really BIG, very sturdy and built well. Got 2 reclining chairs with it that fitted perfectly. If u could track 1 of these down i would recommend it :) .

I'll install one of the crappy webcams lying around & post a pic tomorrow.
& I've been knocking bits of wood together since I was 7 :D
though I couldn't claim to be a professional.
I likes it & my wife hasn't made me burn it so it can't be too bad.

200+ brass screws makes up for not knowing how to make a dovetail joint.

I got a proper office desk from bizquip in Sandyford Ind. Est. cost over €700 though. Well worth it imo, have enough room for 2 monitors, printer, scanner, bonsai, lava lamp, and plenty of room to spare. When I build/fix a computer, I can use a second keyboard/mouse without feeling cramped. Has 2 drawers, and a filing cabinet drawer as well., i think in total its 180mm x 160mm L shaped.

Khannie, you could always build your own out of fedex boxes http://www.fedexfurniture.com/

Go to your local 2nd hand place (loads of them down the country, dunno bout dublin) picked up an office table, you know the ones, steel frame, wooden top, 2 drawers and pop outs for the cables. loads of room for 2 comps, 50 quid.

I've checked out Viking and they seem to have desks that are a bit beyond my prices :P I'm surprised that Argos don't sell a simple and plain table/desk with no extra crap attached to it; what's the difficulty in a piece of wood with 4 legs?

yea alot of the desks offered in Argos etc tend to be 'mini workstations' ie an entire office crammed onto one little desk....

I would prefer a normal large desk with maybe a few drawers under it!! cant stand these things on wheels that have scanners and printers under your feet etc...

Also try Atlantic Homecare and *shudder* PC World. Both have a quite decent array of desks on display.

Built my own aswell. All i did was get a work top 11foot long (80e) bought some shower bar things or there like clothes hanger poles that run along the inside of a ward drobe (15quid for enough to make 6 stands) and borrow equipement i was finished in 3 hours, nice long desk, holds my two pcs laptop, printer and sound system comfortably, i looked for what you want, its not possible to get it, i even called in a carpenter and got qouted 750 euro. DIY man!!!

I'd sell my soul for that desk.

    ......

So anyone interested in a little trade?

I used to have a fantastic, absolutely fantastic, wooden desk. It was true class, the sort of thing I think all desks from argos, ikea and every other 'place' that sells flat-packed desks (even though, oddly enough, it was flat-packed too) are missing... style, true style, not sterile style like that one from lian-li. but the problem with REALLY good desks is they cost a f*ing fortune... mine would have cost £600 IRL, back before the EURO - so nearly €1500 in todays market. If only my sister hadnt taken a liking to leaning on the tilting keyboard shelf

to get really good desks, you have to go to office furnishers, companies who deal with big buisnesses. they always have desks and chairs that arent too comfortable, yet not uncomfortabe whilst also never overly complicated at the same time as never missing a vital part, heh, the essence of ergonomics
