Win95 --> Win98 ?

    Bit of a novice at this...

    I have a rickety PII old work desktop with Win95 installed. I am using it as a sort of backup and storage for photos etc.

    This PC has a USB port at the back which I would like to be able to use, but apparently Win95 doesn't allow/recognise a USB port.

    Can I somehow use the USB port on my Win95 desktop (to download photos from camera and also have USB printer and external CD writer) or will I need to install a later OS like Win98 (I have installation disk to do this).

    AND

    If I do need to install Win98 what would be the steps involved from going from Win95 to Win98 ?

    Thanks.

    Well, to upgrade to 98, all you really need to do is make sure you have enough space on your disk free, pop in and boot up from the CD, and select the upgrade option. If it doesn't give you that option, you may have to format and reinstall from scratch.

    However, Windows 95 did ship with USB support (albeit off by default) as of OEM Service Release 2.1 (version number 4.03.1212-1214 (4.00.950B)). This page will tell you all you need to know about it.
