    CHARTER

    Alcohol!

For the last 9,000 years, people have been drinking alcohol. Stone-age sketches suggest Neolithic people knew how to make alcoholic drinks by fermenting cereals. The King of Persia and his advisors would get drunk before discussing important matters. After sobering up, they would review the decisions made while drunk. If they came to the same conclusions, the King would take an action based on their decisions. Alcohol has been used as a medicine, an intoxicant, a poison, an antiseptic and a restorative. It forms an integral part of the Christian religion as the blood of Christ. (This is an observation, by the way, not a statement of support for Christianity. Just in case anyone thought I was trying to temper their enjoyment of alcohol with suggestions of prayer.)

Now it forms an integral part of boards.ie. This isn’t just any forum. This is a haven, a sanctuary, a shelter, a retreat, a sanctum, offering asylum to those of use who’ve accepted that we’d rather have alcohol in our lives than not.

    Not Tolerated

This is not a forum designed to promote underage drinking, binge drinking, alcoholism, abstinence, pioneers, peoples’ personal agendas about the evils of drink, other peoples’ personal agendas about beating a quick path to cirrhosis of the liver or any kind of alcohol-related violence whatsoever. Alcohol is not bad. People are bad. QED macho stories of alcohol-related violence, or threads about alcohol leading to violence, will result in immediate banning from this board. If you want to harp on about the home-wrecking abilities of a bottle of gin, go to the humanities forum. Warnings will be given to posters who fail to recognise that this is a forum about alcohol, not about their personal lives. Bannings will be handed out thereafter to repeat offenders.

The whole ethos of the charter and the forum in general is one that promotes sensible, mature discussion. Posts or remarks on provisional drinkers, learner drinkers, amateurs or any other juvenile type comment will not be tolerated.

    Desirable Content

This is a forum about loving alcohol, not hating your liver.

This forum should contain reference to brands, varieties, cost, drinkability, different cocktail mixes, a wine/beer/cocktail of the week, good places to buy specials, interesting experiences with drinks in foreign countries, recommendations on what to drink on what occasion, threads on brewing, distilling and viticulture, threads about making your own, (but not distilling it, because that's illegal) and yes, topics on the pompous ass designer drinks that are all about frosted bottles and male models with tapered sideburns who're actually drinking spring water in the ads because they prefer baileys to straight vodka any day.

The unspoken bias of this forum will always be towards discussing flavour, purity, drinkability and quality, and away from celebrating percentage ABV and ‘how quick it gets you pissed’.

Finally, this forum is not a democracy. Alcohol is one of the most regulated substances in the world, we want to try NOT to make this forum one of the most rigidly regulated forums on boards.ie. You do not have rights on this forum. You have privileges. Abuse them and the moderators reserve the right to ban you from the forum.

PLEASE SEE THE FOLLOWING POST, ‘ARE YOU OVER EIGHTEEN YEARS OF AGE?’ FOR A DISCLAIMER RELATING TO THE CONTENT OF THIS FORUM AND INFORMATION ABOUT ALCOHOL AND YOU.

Please do not post personal details on the forum and no text speak is permitted.

ARE YOU OVER EIGHTEEN YEARS OF AGE?

The legal age at which you can purchase alcohol and drink it in public in the Republic of Ireland is eighteen.

This forum does not promote underage drinking.
This forum is for entertainment and information purposes only. Boards.ie can accept no responsibility for the actions of the readers of the Wine/Beer/Spirits forum pursuant to any of the information presented here. The Wine/Beer/Spirits forum does not recommend, encourage, or condone alcohol consumption by persons under 18 or for whom it is otherwise illegal to consume alcohol. Boards.ie accept no responsibility for the contents of the sites hyperlinked from the Wine/Beer/Spirits forum.
If you are over eighteen years of age, please remember it is your own responsibility to treat alcohol sensibly.

We will accept no responsibility for injury experienced by you in doing anything that a normal, reasonable, intelligent person of good standing would consider to be just plain bloody stupid.
THIS INCLUDES DRIVING WHILE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL.

Driving under the influence of alcohol is illegal, dangerous and dumb. The alcoholic drinks mentioned on this forum will mix well with many things, your motorised transport isn’t one of them.

Finally, please do not post on this forum looking for tips on alcoholic drinks if you are below eighteen years of age. We appreciate that you are entitled to voice your opinion on alcohol because of basic freedom of speech, but we’re just not interested in hearing how you sank six cans and a naggin round your local supermarket carpark if you’re fifteen years old.

(Or, in fact, if you’re any age – see charter for what this forum is actually for.)

Posts about making/acquiring/offering fake IDs, buying alcohol if you’re underage, getting access to pubs/clubs if you’re underage and general touting for advice on how to get beer if you’re not yet eighteen will result in immediate banning, and we may possibly even tell your parents, you young pup.
