I've a ZyXEL Prestige 623R-T1 modem (Esat) for my broadband connection. I have it connected to my laptop (not portable anymore) in one room and I want to have broadband on my PC also in another room. What do I need to do for this to happen? What equipment do I need to get? When both are connected can both PC's surf the net at the same time?
Both are running XP if that helps.

well the easiest option is to get your network wireless by adding a wireless access point and then putting a wireless nic card in your pc in the other room, if your non portable lappy is in the same room as the router and AP you can use a cat5 ethernet cable to the laptop, make sure you get a wireless AP with port switches like the ones netgear and linksys offer.
BTW you can also get a adsl wireless AP and save using the router by esat and just have one box.
    ie linksys WAG54G.
you will need to enter your settings as you did in your esat router aswell if you do get a adsl wireless router.

U will need a wireless router and 1 wireless pci card. I am doing this with 4 pc's at the moment and its working nicely :).

What price would a wireless router and a wireless pci card be? Where would be a good place to get them?

As for what's good etc., google for reviews of individual bits of hardware, or run a search in the Broadband and Net&Comms fora.

I'd recommend the wireless too. But a crossover cable would work. most newish PCs have built in LAN. but you would have to turn both PCs on to share the internet. Wireless is more expensive, but also much more convenient.

I'm fairly new to networking so sorry if this is a silly question but I'm guessing I need both of these, 1 for the laptop (modem connects to wireless, wireless connects to laptop??) and the 2nd one for the other PC. Is this correct?

Yup, thats how it works :). Whats cool about that wireless reciever is its external, so u can use it on the pc or if u needed on a laptop to, so lot more flexible.

Yes, no problems with that. Me and my bro can play css online at the same time with no lag :). At night we have 3 different people surfing the net, they will both work at the same time :).
