I just got this message from rory (known on boards as syth) He was at the advance preview screening of Serenity last night, and some of the actors turned up to it...
For those who havent a clue (most people) yacc is a utility for making compilers for computer languages....

Message from rory on ttyp7 at 17:08 ...
    | Kaylee from Firefly signed my yacc book! |
    EOF

Edit: thought I might remove his email address form the post... or he'd kick me in the balls.

    bleh.

Firefly was a hugely successful but very short sci-fi series. They've made a move of it called Serenity. My friend went to a preview screening, and met one of the actresses from it, who plays the character of Kaylee http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0821612/
And he got her to sign his computer book, the sad ba5tard.

    I'm sorry. I'm as nerdy as the next guy, but how bad do you have to be;
    a) To bring a computing book to the *cinema*
    b) To own a book about yacc in the first place

You'd be surprised. I think Syth deserves a special award for how nerdy he is.

"Firefly was a hugely successful but very short sci-fi series. "

    That's a bit of a contradiction surely.

You'd think so, but what about the Original Star Trek?

It's more like Family Guy - a flop on television but a huge hit on DVD.

Sold more DVD's in its first three weeks then one of the Star Wars which went to DVD around the same time.

I was there too. She was signing everything.

    Movie is fanstastic btw.

He's getting out his digital camera, and his yacc book...
    *cringe*

It's not like he had a lack of things to sign either. They even gave out an A4 piece of card that could be signed.

Fair play to Jewel and Sean for signing it though. :p

Ask and you shall recieve. :)

The reason I had the book with me was because someone in the computer science department in UCD was throwing out a whole load of computer books. That yacc book was one of the ones I yoinked.

And the film was great. :)

Uh, that's a joke from the Simpsons.

Yes, that's where he got the idea. He went to a talk Roger Moore was giving, and decided he'd try and get this for his dad's birthday, which was that week...
When he was asking Roger to sign it, he first mentioned the simpsons reference, and then asked Roger if he'd do it... Roger thought it was hillarius, was delighted to do it =0)
