    Hey all,
Myself and the lady got cheap flights into Trieste on the 24th of September, returning 12 days later. We were thinking of going into Croatia and travelling around.

Any advice? Anyone have any special recommendations for accom or places to see (not to see).

    Cheers

You did the right thing in taking 12 days, as a week is not enough to see Croatia, neither is 12 days, but it is a good start.

First Off, you may or may not get lucky/unlucky with the weather at this time of year, it is very unpredictable, again with 12 days you should get a fairly good stretch of nice weather, maybe even the full 12 days.

It's out of season, but not too bad, but you will be able to travel around ad hoc, and not have to pre book accommodation anyway, so that's cool.

I highly recommend you hire a car.

Porec, Plitivice Lakes, Rovinj, Zadar, Trogir, Split will get you half way down the coast.

Ferry then to the islands Hvar, Brac, Korcula....Ferry to Orebic on Peljesac Peninsula.

Peljesac Peninsula, Ston, Medjegore, Mostar, Cavtat and then Dubrovnik.

Then allow 2 days to drive back up the coast from Dubrovnik to Trieste.

    Sorted ! ;)

P.S You will be back again next year then :)

That sounds like a decent plan (although I only recognise some of those places. Gotta hit the books again). Sounds like you're taken with it. Have you been there many times?

How much is it to rent a car? Also - I have a full Irish driving licence. Is that all I need?

    Cheers!

    Yeh driving licence and passport.

I've been a few times and have an apartment there.

    It's a great country !

Your car hire will be from Trieste so i dunno the price, but they're pretty much the same around €250- €300 per week.

If you intend to discover Croatia properly, you need a car.

Alternatively, you could get the bus to Rijecka and stay there one night and get the overnight ferry down to split. Split is an excellent base to visit all the islands from (hvar , korcula, brac). The ferry also brings you onto Dubrovnik (to which a 2/3 visit is loads)

Check out the ferry company timetables on www.jadrolinija.hr

Upto you whether you hire a car or ferry it. Either way you'll enjoy it, its a fabolous place.
