Red Eye Review

For some reason Boards won't let me in the "Film Review" section anymore. I don't know why... so I'll post this here.

    Saw it last night…

One of, if not the best, Wes Craven film I’ve ever seen…

The storyline is quite simple. Starting of as a potential Romance, Lisa (Rachel McAdams) a hotel manager meets Jack (Cillian Murphy) at the airport. They’re both about to catch the Red- Eye flight to Miami, but its delayed. When they finally get on the flight Lisa discovers that Jack is going to kill her father (Brian Cox) if she doesn’t change a family’s room at her Hotel to set up an assassination…

Cillian Murphy gives a good performance as Jack-- highly dangerous, dark
    and constantly watchable.

Rachel McAdams, having also recently being in “Wedding Crashers”, is very good. She’s usually crying or nervous, but she still gives a pretty believable performance.

Red Eye is oddly enjoyable, occasionally funny and quite thrilling.
Sadly, following the footsteps of “Collateral”, once they’re out of the taxi, or in this case the plane, it goes downhill.

In terms of character its flawed. Purely working on a back-story of Lisa’s grandmother just dying and her parents being divorced 3 years ago after a happy 32-year marriage, leaving her character quite bland. Jack doesn’t have a back-story or any real character.
Its also a very short film, running time under 90 minutes.

Craven delivers his best film, by using his usual formula. Make the audience laugh as much as they scream.

    OVERALL:

Quite thrilling for the first hour or so, but immediately turns into a simple chase toward the end. Good performances and an enjoyable script, make this highly entertaining thriller well above average, but is cut short due to a disappointing end and a slight lack of character.

    7/10

    -1: Lack of character
    -1: Too short
    -1: Bad ending.

I wonder why I can't enter "Film Reviews" anymore.

Possibly because of your two, maybe three line "reviews"?

For your information it was probably 6 or 7 lines and thats only cause those films were on DVD and not in the cinema....

qz: I haven't seen you do a long review yet..

then again I can;t because I can ni longer enter "Film Reviews".

Oh I apologise, six or seven lines is more than enough for a movie review . Does it make a difference whether the movie you reviewed was in the cinema or on DVD? Is the movie cut so much between it's cinema and DVD release that there is only enough material for you to write six or seven lines on?
qz: I haven't seen you do a long review yet..

That's because I can't. My reviews turn out shíte and I don't feel the need to press my opinions on other Boardsers (unlike others ). I'm admitting my reviews are crap, so why should I make other people put up with them?

I'll admit three threads I started were complete crap. Thats cause I was only starting when I did them, so I was a complete retard.

These days they're not so bad. Clearly more than 7 lines.

Who cares if you reviews are crap. Threads are there for other people to add to it, unless your so insecure that your afraid someone won't like your review.

By the way, I'm only joking with you. You reviews can't possibly be worse than mine (used to be).

Do you think it might perhaps be something to do with the personal abuse you gave out to another user...

I don't actually give abuse to other users. If I ever mock them I'm never serious.

Anyway, this is about Red Eye, so I'll just say its good and better than most.

You were temp banned from Film Reviews mainly for personal abuse, but those non-reviews you were writing didn't help either.

Well I've just heard of the Film Reviews board (I'm still trying to figure that there is *gasp* more than just a TV section) so I've no experience of anybody's reviews but I think this one is pretty good Orange Elephant. I think Red Eye looks good but I'm surprised it's a 12 (well I saw an ad on a uk channel today maybe it's higher here), I was expecting it be 18's for some reason, just from what it sounds like.
I'm looking forward to this though. Rachel McAdams is really coming into her own now, I actually think it was lucky the way her movies worked out, with Mean Girls and Notebook last year and then this and Wedding Crashers now, I think she could do better long term than say Lindsay Lohan who I think risks becoming way too overexposed...

stop whining about each others reviews. the fact of the matter is neither of you are full time journalists writing for anything worthwhile.

it's just his opinion on the movie, doesnt matter how long or short it is. there is not set minimum amount of letters to be used.

Actually, there's a rule in the Film Reviews charter about posting reviews like this.

I watched this film at the weekend.
    Where to begin.
It starts off well and it moves along nicely for the first 45 minutes.
Good tension and Cillian Murphy is menacing as the bad guy.
Then it goes horribly wrong and turns into a girl power film whereby Murphy is reduced to a pathetic clown .
This film ends up shambolically and it insults the viewer in the last 15 minutes.
    First half of the film,7/10
    Second half 2/10
    A waste.
