I picked up a bruised rib last week training. I feckin hate bruised ribs. I went back training a week later and messed it up again, its not worse than it was, I'm just back to square one. Anyone else have experience of this?

Should I wait a while before I roll/train again or should I just stfu and get on with it?

I hope I'm not out too long I only started a few weeks ago...

would defo recommend waiting about two to three weeks, even if it doesn't hurt anymore in that time, it doesn't mean the bruising is gone, that is my experience anyway

Ah sure it´s only a rib, you´ve got loads more.

I hurt a rib last year in training when I walked onto a sidekick. My own fault, but the damn thing hurt. The worst was getting up out of bed in the morning. i couldn't sit straight up, I had to do a kind of roll off the bed.

There's really nothing that a doctor can do for ribs, you just have to let it rest and heal. If it's really bad, tape it up. Taping your chest will take some of the stress off the rib. lay off training for a week or two at the very least.

its just a case of letting it heal itself - if its only a bruised rib iwould reccimend giving it 2/3 weeks and ease your way back into it - rolling on rib injuries can really hurt - it takes you out of it mentally and opens you up to making mistakes and further injuries

Cheers lads I think I'll rest it for a couple of weeks and make a comeback then...

    Some advice...

As long as you have it, take deep breaths and make sure you fill your lungs each time. Reason being, you unintentionally restrict your breathing due to the pain when you've a cracked or bruised rib due to discomfort. So then the bottom of your lungs are deprived of oxygen and you can get a chest infection. Happened to me, I broke my rib, let it heal but got a chest infection, was coughing all the time which was painful enough, but then once it was nearly healed, I started sneezing. Sneezed so hard one day I re-broke it.
So there you go, man breaks rib by sneezing. Funny, it was a side kick that did it the first time for me too.

I take it it's not broken. Is it the bottom rib ? those ones are floating ribs, I got a few smacks on them before, it's pretty painful ok. I think it can be pretty dangerous if those break, but then again you would know if it was broken.
Regardless, Id take the advise above, and take it easy.
