    Hi
    Was wondering if you could help me make my mind up! I want to get either a new laptop, or a new computer. Not sure which. Here is a list of my requirements;

    I have a budget of around 800 euro or thereabouts
    I dont mind getting 2nd hand
    I need a good resolution (around 1400x1050)
    I want it to be able to play new games, or at least, games like Counter Strike Force
    Portability is an issue, but not a major one. I like the compactness of laptops and dont really like having a bulky tower and big monitor etc. Lets just say, a laptop would be much cooler :)
    I want DVD Burner/USB 2 etc

    Any ideas?
    Cheers
    -Cian

    the main problem with laptops is the graphics are not up to spec, in order to get good graphics you'd be spending over €1000, maybe even second hand, also laptops themselves are getting very hot themselves, you'd have more chance of playing games on a computer bought with an €800 budget, than a laptop

    I dont necessarily want an ultra-gaming computer - one that would handle every single game perfectly, I more just want an all round good pc/laptop, that would serve my needs satisfactorily. In relation to games, it would be nice to play games such as Counter Strike, but they dont have to run perfectly, at full optimum display etc.

    in terms of laptops, most laptops in or around your budget, would come with integrated graphics(intel extreme) or ATI X300(or nvidia equivalent), these would probably run HL1 and CS 1.6 ok, but dont expect to run HL2 or CS:S

    whereas with a desktop, you could at least try for something mid-range in terms of graphics

    I have a dell inspirion 9300 with x300 & 128mb. Plays Half Life 2 good enough

    A desktop will always give you more bang for your buck, unless you need the mobility of a laptop you're always better off with a desktop. The resolutions you're looking for aswell as the ability to play recent games won't come cheap in a laptop.
