Doing up a small kitchen

The house I'm moving into needs complete modernisation and a brand new kitchen. At the moment the kitchen is half in the old house and half in a small extension that was built years ago.
The floor of the extension part (which is really small) is about an inch lower that the rest of the house so there's an annoying lip between the two.

Given that we'll probably tile the entire kitchen, what can be done to raise the floor level of the extension part?

You could sheet the area with some waterproof ply which is available in numerous different thicknesses. It's fairly straightforward, just cut to size and if its to a wooden floor , screw down at 50mm intervals. If its a concrete floor, drill through with a 6 or 8mm masonry (pref SDS) bit and then use 70-80mm spring nails (of the same guage) to fix. Your local hardware store will be able to advise you fully
