Eircom said it had 156,000 broadband customers as of August 18, compared with 150,000 on July 25

1750 a week sign-up and this was during the Broadband Time fiasco. Shocking figures.

    6.000 extra over 24 days = 250 a day or 1,750 a week on average.

Still dont they need about 3 times that takeup to meet their target???

So approx. 90,000 per year or 7,500 per month.

So giving them the benefit of doubt,
5 months to 2006 is 37,500 total 193,500 (expect super PR in January about the 200K)
end 2006 is another 90,000 total 283,00 (expect super PR in February about the 300K)
end 2007 is another 90,000 total 373,500 (expect sod all PR about their failure to reach their target)

Does anyone know if Eircom are including LLU customers from the likes of Smart in the total?

    Thanks

We can hardly rely on Comreg to audit these figures, they probably include analogue tielines and ISDN lines as well :)

I wouldn't be surprised if eircom did - anything to get figures, they'll do!
Although that said, thanks to eircom's general arsing around, the take up rate for smart BB has been painfully slow, simply because eircom make it as difficult as possible to switch user phonelines from eircom's network to smart.

It'd be very interesting to see what the take up rate for each package / service was eg. how many took time related packages, how many took an alternative provider etc.

Bitstream customers are included in Eircom's figures, but not LLU (I would be very surprised if they took it that far). At any rate, at the moment we have what, 1000 or 2000 LLU customers in Ireland in total? So it isn't worth counting.

You're right to say it's not worth counting LLU customers at the moment; but if Smart are able to get easier access to the exchanges and a proper switchover process they could do serious damage to Eircom's already weak chances of hitting the 500,000 customers.

So are you saying that 156,000 customers is all of bitstream(eircom+BT+UTV+...etc)????

How many "pure" eircom customers are there then who actually pay directly to eircom for their Broadband???
    Whats BT's/UTV's...etc total???

Eircom counts all its Broadband retail and bitstream customers as its customers.

Page 32 of ComReg's latest Trendwatch figures gives an indication of how the general Internet users (incl Broadband) are shared by the ISPs.

According to a ministerial statement from October 2004 the DCMNR is publishing the exact and detailed (by form of access and company)broadband figures at quarter-yearly intervals, beginning November 2004? Has anyone seen this happening?

Peter, as far as we can tell they cannot do this. eircom can claim the "get out of jail" clause of "commercial sensitivity" and the DCMNR and ComReg don't seem to be able to get around it unless they again want to go to court. This is one of the reasons ComReg do the surveys instead of publishing the figures. They should be able to publish aggregate figures though.

I believe this is a reason they don't publish 3G usage figures yet since it is obvious who all the subscribers will be with. Remember the way Irish law works is always side with the big guys not the individual.

I assume that those are for all internet connections and not just broadband...because BT @3% seems very low for broadband!
eircom have a sickening strangle hold on DSL...b@stards!!!
