    Memphis..this is for you!!

If you’re interested in Shotokan History and Gichin Funakoshi or more so his son, please have a look at articles by: -

1.Graham Noble, available through Fighting Arts International, Terry O’Neill’s publication (don’t know who is old enough here to remember that one), its available thought Budo Promotions now via Simon Oliver
    2.Patrick McCarthy’s publication ‘Tanpenshu’
3.Harry Cook’s publication precise History of Shotokan
4.And check out Shotokan Karate magazine.

Memphis, bang away with any specific questions you have, I’m no expert but I’ll post an answer ;-)

    (Below taken from e-Budo)

The Nihon Karate Kyokai (JKA) is probably the best known Shotokan organization. However, by no means the JKA is representative of the whole Shotokan school.

Below I would like to present a small list of various groups and currents, which are practising interpretations of Gichin Funakoshi's karate. (additions are welcome)
    ______________________________________________

    (1) Nihon Karatedo Shotokai (S. Egami; this is the follow-up organization of G. Funakoshi's own group)
    (2) Shoto Domonkai (T. Watanabe)
    (3) Nihon Shoto Rengokai (N. Mizuda)
    (4) Shotokan Karate of America (T. Oshima)
    (5) Nihon Karate Shoto Renmei (T. Asai)
    (6) Kokusai Shotokan Karate Renmei (H. Kanazawa)
    (7) Nihon Karatedo Yutenkai
    (8) Shoto-Ryu (T. Shimizu)
    (9) Gima-Ha Shotokan-Ryu (S. Gima)
    (10) Okano-Ha Shotokan-Ryu (T. Okano)
    (11) Kase-Ha Shotokan Ryu (T. Kase)
    (12) Chidokan (T. Sasaki)

There are a variety of associations in Ireland that teach Shotokan, any other shotokan karate-ka out there??

This is the association I'm a member of, pretty small association at the moment, but well worth a look if you like your karate to be a mix of tradition and progression.

Have a look at www.thejks.com for more info.

Edit: have a look on http://www.all-karate.com for some basic info on other styles and karate lineage (and look at the brutal quicktime movies for a laugh).

I remember FAI, one of the few MA mags worth reading

Terry O'Neill wound up being accused of all sorts on e-budo a few years later, allegedly a bit of delboy

    Hi Guys,

Check Out http://www.budopromotions.co.uk/ it gives a profile on Terry O’Neill and a photo gallery, some of him on set at movie locations.

Official web site for FAI.. http://www.terryoneills-fai.com/

Memphis, try her for article ‘beginning of shotokai and shotokan’ http://www.karatedoshotokai.com/articles/

Thanks guys for the links. I took a look at the last mentioned link there Damo on the beginning of Shotokai and Shotokan. Well worth the read (despite being a bit long). Very informative, and very much based on the authors own personal opinion, believes, and experiences in the field.

Sico, I couldn't get those quicktime clips to work. Donno why!!

There are quite a few boardsters on the KTJW forums (Karate Underground) already - it's well worth a look for anyone looking for karate info (particularly Shotokan)

    Cheers

The submit a club link on the shotokanireland website does not work.
Any ideas how I can submit my club, or does anyone know of another site?
