I did a search yesterday for some simple smilies, and low and behold I came across plenty of sites supplying a wide array of these cute little objects.

Can't see them being hard to make, and pretty much every damn forum that exists on the internet uses them.
Fancy trying your hand at making some?

I made a zombified smily before which is tucked up somewhere within my Photopost account here on Boards, but it would have been much better if animate.

See if you can rustle up some interesting ones :)

Certain Sprite Compiling / Ripping tools allow files to be converted into .GIF, so if you wish to make one then that'd be a good place to start.

If anyone can come up with a .GIF maker before me, then that person wins a slice of cake.

ya i would really like to find out how to do this....but havent got a clue where to start cept that the animated smilies are gif files......

Adobe imageready (part of photoshop) is capable of making animated gifs but it isnt free (the downloadable trial available from their website is though) . If you do get your hands on it aswell there is quite alot of learning involved because it doesnt quite behave like ms paint etc..

I'm not sure if flash supports it but it isnt great for making small objects like smilies ( of course I'm open to be proven wrong on that one)

I'll see what I can make by way of smilies later on and post them up.

I'll soon be doing a search for some of the sites I earlier discovered... They had some rather... Interesting smilies :)

Also, a good .gif converter would be handy too, so I'll focus on getting us all a managable copy as well.

    http://www.tomdownload.com/multimedia_design/animation/

    http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Multimedia_and_Graphics/Animated_GIF_Editors/Active_GIF_Creator_Download.html

Links to two GIF editor downloads - Didn't grab them myself, though. I'm still digging into my sprite animation so I'm relatively busy, but alternate programs should easily be found simply by googling 'GIF Maker' or something along those lines, incase those ones don't agree with ye.

As for smilies and animated characters, well, here's another simple google in regards to that...

    http://www.mysmilies.com/

Have a browse through the links in the middle of the page. Quite a lot of people have submitted various animations, from the usual smilies, to recreated sprite animations of characters from classic 'older' games.

They should give you plenty of idea's for making your own little animations :)

well i tried this ..its easy to work and all...cept that you need a subscribed version to save properly....when you save without it....it adds its own advert to your annimation

    Hmmmm.

I'm sure there's a few other programs out there that wouldn't give this hassle.
I'll do a further search into the matter soon.
Thanks for trying anyhow, Hude Hamp.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the matter?

    ImageReady:
    http://user.fundy.net/morris/redirect.html?photoshop12.shtml

I'm still on a learning curve for this one, but apparantly ImageReady is one of the more popular ones. As far as I knows it's a Photoshop extension, but anyhow, give that a go.

I'll be giving it a tryout tommorow after work and see if I can bring my very own brand of 'dementia' to animation :D

    Nice one Giblet.

Did you find or make that one?
I must get into the animation side of things here - Been a bit off lately, but after this week I'll have plenty of spare time so I'll hopefully either make something new or give those demented smilies an animated make over :)

    Keep them coming guys.

i really want to start making my own..... but im starting my computer programming course in maynooth NUI in september...so that should be a good help shouldnt it?.. well at least i'll have brilliant computers to work with

Well that depends on wether they actually have the right programs installed for the job. They never had anything useful for me to pillage when I did my own computer course, but that was years ago.

    You might be suprised though.

The GIMP can create animated GIFs: anim.gif

It's a little tricky, as you need to specify the frame timings in the layer names, but at least it's free.

    *The GIMP*

Ok, I guess we'll have to google for it.
Busy revamping Gathering Cards (Which I may need an animated ad for at a later date) so once I'm finished with it, it's onto Gif / Animation editing :)

Thanks for all your replies so far guys - Anyone else have some nice smilies?
