If boards was a private property you would probably be kicked out for being annoying tosser.

    Don't like it, leave Simple!

my you are asking for a spanking...

    but to be fairhanded...

i will say...that if boards was a government it would be...a techocracy?

is that the right word for it?

read up on it a while ago.

It something that was happening in eastern europe where the people wanted people who were high up executives and ceos of multinational companies to run the government simply because they knew how to run such a large number of departments etc.

and if i dreamed that, its closest relative is Beuracracy. (the sigpo is enough proof of this)

    mostly harmless.

    Benevolant dictatorship.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,473 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

Eh, you left out the only viable option to vote for: benevolant dictatorship.

The Admins fund boards.ie out of their own pockets when ads and subscriptions don't cover the costs and have done so for years. Don't be so ungrateful...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,129 ✭✭✭Nightwish

in number 3 your typical day would be spent marching, boards would be in the process of seizing territory to build monuments of the Mods, the registered users would most likely meet their death by being killed by either enemy mods or boards mods, and registered users get jailed for poor dancing at Boards Beers

does that really sound like boards.ie?

Well you seem to think you know how to run the place better!

sorry sleepy i didnt mean to be ungrateful, i literally never thought of benevolent dictatorship as an answer, is it possible to edit the poll now? and number 3 is open to interpretation some people might see ireland that way, what with smoking bans and the like, after all its slightly oppressive not stalinist

no ireland is a nanny state not oppressive. There's a difference.

Nanny State: Brings in strict laws for the benefit of its people, weather they want it or not.

oppressive: Brings in strict laws for the benefit of the state...f*ck the people.

The politics section is a joke. If you don't have an extreme left wing view you'll get banned. I got banned once (by earthman) for accusing somebody of (wait for it) not caring about something! At the same time I've been called every name under the sun but earthman didn't seem to mind that! Most moderators seem to be ok though even the ones I disagree with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

politics discussion online is always extreme. without the important natural elements such as tone of voice, body language et all. Everyone is always seen as an extremity to one of the spectrums. Then there is the mentality of debating online. No actual physical responsibility so some users do tend to allow their viewpoints to lean to the extreme.

To be honest i get the impression that a fair number of users on the politics board (left and right) dont give politics a second look outside that forum, its the only place where they let out their political viewpoint and any viewpoint in its most basic form is extreme, it requires constant chipping and remolding. Hence users like for example Sand, myself and (i think) dadakopf who i know have discussed politics (and even study it) to far lengths outside boards tend to be less extreme then others.

but thats all in my opinion.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 348 ✭✭KnowItAll

I agree that there is alot of people with extreme views out there.

    Watch it

The correct answer might dictate as to whether this poll is a truly secret ballot. On that basis, we should abstain, and watch our backs. :)

I'd suggest here as an outlet
If you don't have an extreme left wing view you'll get banned.
Perhaps I should ban myself then. Outlet suggestion: here
    I got banned once
Three times I'm afraid. I went and counted. I didn't notice a complaint from you or appeal request via the relevant channels on a single one so at this stage sympathy is free, solace is expensive and empathy is non-existent. Same outlet suggestion as the first one above.
Most moderators seem to be ok though even the ones I disagree with.
All moderators are people. Some people are arseholes, all people have them, therefore all moderators have arseholes and it's entirely possible that some are. All boards.ie users are people, some people, er, well the idea's there.

Actually on topic in a shocking turn of events, it's nowhere near options 2 or 4 - anyone can leave at any time. It's not 1 because them that own the site keep saying it isn't and it's not really 3, though it may be the closest of the three options, again keeping in mind that the door's usually open on the way in and always open on the way out. I like referring to forum mods as local warlords. Semi-serious, almost all would take it as reasonable, some as a compliment. Like the other s-mods, I'm just a janitor with a broom that has a longer handle than normal. I've the key to the utility closet but not the medicine cabinet. And that's at the whim of the owners of the site, who also implicitly grant a user the means to post on their site every time someone does so. So as analogies go, it's someone's house where they've left the front door open. They can stop someone entering, they can kick someone out and that's pretty reasonable given that it's their house. If I set up my own forum on my own webspace, that'd be my house and I could ban anyone who didn't post in rhyming couplets till the cows came home at my own whim. If only I had the time.

    Monarchy?
DeVore has the rightful claim to the throne, after all.
Cloud would probably be his heir or something. The Prince.
The SMods would be The Privy Council.
The other Mods, ooh, probably the Lords/Dukes/Noblemen or some such.

And us users? We, my friends, are merely peasants. :)

could just say its very beuracratic spectre?

those in charge just want things to keep running, even if it requires in an insane number of people to run the place.

and yes, I thought boards.ie always was and always would be a 'benevolent dictatorship'...

The last time I got banned was about 5 weeks ago. I got a 3 week ban and I let earthman know when the time was up but he hasn't 'unbanned' me.

Where and to whom do I complain? I shouldn't have to complain tbh.

Send me a PM and I'll check into it. As I said above, this isn't the forum for it as despite finding it vaguely convenient it's nothing to do with the topic as started.

I'll say this much though, after being banned three times, if you manage to get banned a fourth time I'm unlikely to allow anyone to let you back in while I still have that option available to me. I've better things to be doing and other people have better things to be reading. That'll be discussable in the hopefully brief PM exchange you have the option to start with me. I hope you're not the last guy that we were pretty sure was using a dual account to get around a ban though as those guys never get unbanned (in other words, I'm advising you not to PM me at all if you've ever used a second account in the past to get around a politics ban - when I check (and I will check), if I find out I'll consider a sitewide ban on all forums for dual accounts, ban evasion and timewasting). Up to you, send me a PM rather than running the original poster's thread here off-topic if you want the issue considered.

Where and to whom do I complain? I shouldn't have to complain tbh.
Never said you had to. Most of the time I couldn't care less on a personal level whether someone does or not. The procedure's mentioned in the politics guidelines for posting, listed as a permanent sticky thread on the forum. As I said above, this isn't the forum for it as despite finding it vaguely convenient it's nothing to do with the topic as started.

Ha, haven't seen it. I'll get to it one of the days. I'm guessing there's something about assholes or anuses in there somewhere:)

Yeah. I suppose it can be that. I suppose it is that really. Lots of people see any bureaucracy as a bad thing so I stayed away from using the word.

    I like Tar's logic though.
