Will an atomic clock that takes the signal from Braunschweig, Germany, work in Ireland, more precisely Dublin? It has a coverage of 2000km, but how far is the from Braunschweig to Dublin?

 you must really have a thing for being on time!!
I reckon it should be close enough to work. Try and get distance charts to nearest major city and you'll know then.

    Atomic Clock?
I thought that they were the ones that you only had to set once and then they would always be right. Maybe I'm wrong. If the signal comes from Germany, won't the time always be an hour off anyway, cos of different time zones?

don't quote me, but i believe the atomic clocks all put out the same signal and any atomic clock should work as long as it's within range of one of them.

after all they do wrist watch versions.

Google Earth says it's about 1200km from Braunschweig to Dublin.

    Our survey says: BING!

    Also haha at karlhs' wristwatch.

(A little off topic but has anyone located the Great Wall of China in GoogleEarth?)

I've got one from when I used to live in Germany and it works sometimes, but not reliably. Mine hasn't got a decent signal for months. Seems to work better in the winter for some reason. Also bear in mind that most radio clocks made to pick up that signal will be set up for Central European Time, so will be an hour out. You can get radio clocks that work off a transmitter in England, Rugby, I think.

Yup thats because signals travel better in the dark and theres less daytime in the winter.

I've had one here for a couple of years that works off the rugby tx and it picks up the signal from there fine, here on the East coast.
I'd guess relying on the one from Germany would be dodgy.
The signal doesn't travel too well over land after getting here.
Reception in the west would be very very difficult and likewise in towns or near main roads where there would be a lot of interference from traffic and or electrical appliances, lights or machinery.

You can't, the pictures aren't near the resolution it would take. Despite all the myths about the Great Wall, it can't be seen from space. Anyway back on topic :\/
