What can i use this for??

Ok, a while back i was given a small form factor pc. I dont no the exact specs at the moment but its a decent 1, AMD chip in it. For the last few months i have used it as a HTPC. I stuck it under my tv and threw the dvd player and vcr in the cuboard.
My mom has now decided she hates it and i must remove it , for many reasons which only she will understand.
So what can i do with it ? Any ideas, i would give it my sister but im in the process of building her a pc so she wont need it.
What would u use it for ??

Thought about this but when i watch my movies i like them on the bigger screen . I may do this and just play music but im hardly ever in my room tbh, so think it would be wasted there.
As for giving it to you , if i can get a decent chunck for it i may sell it.
Any more ideas?

Ok i will go get them soon. I think its an AMD Athlon 2400XP if my memory is correct. Could have as much ram as i want :rolleyes: . Got a geforce5200 lying here so could pop that in.

Install FreeBSD on it and turn it into a server, I did it and it's great. I highly recommend it unless you've other plans.

HEHE, me and some other guys where *disrupting* a sale thread . All got a 1 week booting up the rear. Ill get the specs quickly now that the peeps are off the tv .

Install FreeBSD on it and turn it into a server, I did it and it's great. I highly recommend it unless you've other plans.

80 Gb Hdd
And a DVD Writer.

I could just put it next to my desktop pc and browse the net while i play games?

I run game servers on it whenever I have a LAN party, but I primarily use it for video and music, I can watch all my movies on tv with my xbox then. If your into web dev you can run a web server on it, and even host your own website.

Yes the game server was the first thing that popped into my head but i never hold lan partys :rolleyes: . None of my m8's even play on pc's. Perhaps i could host a website for sh1ts and giggles . Donno wat i would put on it. What do u guys reckon i could get for this ??

Had a thought. Wat would u need to setup a css server? Would it chew up all your bandwith? I dont mean to play on lan, but for an internet server. Do i have a hope in hell? :rolleyes:

Nope, most providers don't allow it. But anyway, you'd need a low latency synchronous (or high upload) connection. Around 2mb up I'd imagine.
