Damp

Anyone know how bad damp has to be before you can leave a flat you have rented before your lease runs out and still get your deposit back?

When we moved in the bathroom was newly painted and we think it may have been to hide the damp. It is now turning the ceiling and tops and bottoms of the walls black and the paint is peeling off in some areas.

We also found some damp under the windows when we moved the bed so it is not confined to the bathroom.

That's pretty bad.. There are standards that have to be met for somewhere to be rented out. If they're not met, then essentially they're breaking the law, and I can't imagine anyone holding you to your lease if it were brought to court. Try giving Threshold a call and getting their two cents on it..

I'm guessing here that its a combination of a lack of ventilation and lack of cleaning.

Try leaving the window open, especially after showers / baths to let the damp air out. Make sure there is some ventilation at other times.

Most bathroom detergents should clean of mold / mildew.
