IPOD: how to copy music from ipod to computer

once i put music on my ipod , thats it, i cant copy any of it back onto my mac at a later stage as it seems you arent allowed to do this, is there a way around this problem?

You can't copy it directly, in the finder or using iTunes, but there are a number of apps that allow you to do this, one I use is iPodRip:
