The Long Jump record has finally gone!

Anybody who's seen Mac this year knew he was in the form of his life and today, Sunday, he pulled it off in Switzerland: 8.07m +1.4.

At the same meet, Paul McKee ran 46.63 and Rob Daly ran 46.69.

Ciaran has the standard for the Euros now (7.95m).

That was announced down in Tullamore today, a fantastic performance by Ciaran

Yeah, this is great news. 2 national records this year - Eileen O'Keeffe (twice) and now Ciaran. Despite all the doom and gloom (rightfully) after the World Champs, there are some good signs there this year for the future - Costello & Darcy in the Europeans, good performances all round at the Universities, European Indoor golds for Cragg and Gillick, some reasonable performances at the Youths and the European Under 23s etc. All these up and coming athletes and Irish athletes in general need now is a bit of support.

    Eh, wouldn't that be 3?

Discounting Taneisha Robinson's 2 at the Triple Jump, and of course the Sprint Relay record in the Euro Cup.

Fair Play, Slow Coach (only you're not so slow are you?) Totally forgot about Taneisha and Sprint relay records.

Mentally, maybe. But I'm faster than Asafa Powell.

Or maybe that should be the other way around... :D

    I'll answer my own question!

Ciaran McDonagh Opens with New National Record

    15 Jan 2006

Ciaran McDonagh opened his indoor season in style yesterday in Blacksburg Virginia, with a massive leap of 8.00m. This is the first time an Irish man has ever broken the 8.00m mark indoors. This performance puts Ciaran first on the 2006 World List as of yesterday and is just 10cm outside the World Indoor qualification standard of 8.10m. Ciaran confirmed his form in the 60m, running 6.79.

McDonagh's outdoor record of 8.07m which placed him in the top 40 in the IAAF Top Lists from 2005 looks like it could come under serious pressure in the coming weeks.

Mac also had a 6.79 60m PB. That moves him up to fifth on the all-time list. All augurs well for the rest of the year.
