    Hi folks,

Is it possible to get a natural gas sensor, something eqivalent to a house fire alarm?
I've never heard of one! So it might be very specialist equipment :(

My mum tends to leave the gas on after cooking every now and again!!

    Thanks,

    pan

I know they exist but I don't know how specilist or expensive they are. The one I saw was hooked up in t a specfic home automation system and was only a demo.

    Quantum Scientific ( stillorgan)
    Quadrat engineering ( Chapelizod)

An industrial single room solution is available, but you'll need a sep panel, also it will set you back a bit
To the best of my knowledge you cant get a standalone domestic unit in this country, however this claim could raise the prove people wrongers. these guys do gas detection systems, and you could get it hooked up to the digi dialer on the intruder alarm if you wanted.

    Pan,

I work for Zellweger Analytics here in Ireland and we supply the majority of the large companies with their gas detection requirements. Stand alone natural gas detection is expensive for the average house....for a single point you are talking over €1000. I carry a portable unit with me into hazardous areas and they still will set you back nearly a grand. Most of the areas I cover are the toxic gas side of things, but I'll make an enquiry to the office and ask one of the guys in the workshop would he know of anything we sell cheaper.

Its the cells internally that are expensive to manufacture for flammable gases.

Pan, we don't do one, but thats not to say there isn't one available. Have you rang Bord Gais?

Quantum are exclusive agents of ours in this country so they may try to sell you a portable of ours, so you won't have any joy with them.

Managed to find this ... http://www.emergencyresponse.ie/telecare.htm. It seems to be a complete emergency response system designed for elderly or at-risk people living alone, but they have a natural gas sensor that connects up to their system. Maybe it could be rigged up to act as a standalone alarm too?
