you can't go into a guitar in ireland and not get ripped off.

what i tend to do is go in and try some guitars and get a feel for the guitar then buy it online using the numerous shops in the resources sticky

Personally, I have found the people in Musician Inc (mostly) and Perfect Pitch (sometimes) to be more interested in customer service than the people in other music shops. On line is way cheaper, no doubt about it.

Perfect Pitch- can be kinda rude, they get some interesting things in there though (and a lot of crap...)

Waltons - Nice people, well laid out shop and pretty laid back atmosphere but a lot of the people don't know what they're doing...

    Instrumental - Assholes...

Musicmaker - Nice people, lots of neat stuff...

Musician Inc - Nicest people, small shop but the people know what they're doing... Best customer service and my personal fave...

Goodwins - Also very nice people but not really the best variety of stuff...

That's just my oppinions of things... Prices don't really change much...

I agree - they were so rude to me one time (3 or 4 years ago) that I didn't go in there for ages. More recently have found them to be fine, quite helpful in fact and not adverse to knocking a bit off the price. Probably depends on the particular individual you encounter. I find them good for accessories. Their range of electric guitars is very limited IMHO.

Perfect Pitch-yes i went their but they were assholes to me!

In fairness to all the guitar shop staff, can you imagine having to put up with little 14 and 15 year olds (and older) coming in and playing Enter Sandman a hundred times a day? I know it's their job to help you but everyone has bad days.

yeh i do agree with you there!

if i absolutely have to buy in a guitar shop in town (small things like leads, picks etc) i'll choose goodwins, as their prices are on par with everyone else ohh and they always play weezer. :D

Capel St, not far from Slatterys. Was only ever in there one time but friendly and helpful service. Had a good range of electrics AFAICR. Seemed a little bit trad oriented.

I hear what you are saying Feylya. IMHO some shops just train their staff to cope better with their bad days or at least create an expectation that its not OK to be rude to potential paying customers.

Do shops even bother training their staff with customer interaction?

We'll if some shops can deal with it then why can't all of them?

Cos different people have different levels of tolerance. My point was that everyone gets in a ****ty mood from time to time and takes it out on other people, no matter how hard they try not to. A combination of a bad mood and constant crap with people playing guitars badly would piss anyone off.

Musician Inc is the best in my honest and humble opinion.

If you're looking on the internet check out www.thomann.de and www.guitarampkeyboard.com

Thomann - you can get a lot of stuff for a low price there but for the more expensive goods they can be unrelaible
GAK - a lot of their stuff is the same price as it would be in the shops but it's a good website to look at and they are reliable.

most people know these site but in case you didn't...

Bought my first ever guitar 3 weeks ago from these guys and would also give them my vote. I did bring a friend in to tell me where to go and what questions to ask etc. as well play some decent guitar when I started to piss people off with my fumbly g-tar playing ;). I got a cheap solid-top Tanglewood that apparently sounds very good for its price (according to my mate).

Musician Inc. gets my vote -great customer service very friendly and helpful .know what they're talking about gear wise and not condescending at all unlike nearly all the others -the worst I've encountered being some muppet in waltons up near parnell sq which has to be the worst guitar shop in dublin .also as it has a basement floor you can try out gear in some kind of privacy and crank the volume a little too.:-) AND they give decent trade in values on gear. I used to hate going into music shops and trying out gear as its a weird experience ,a little mini gig if you will...and because of the condescension of the staff.now I'm like 'I wanna try the Gibson on the back wall and the mesa boogie lonestar bitch' and I 'm gonna crank it too !
