clip off it's wings, or try attaching weights to it.

:D:D:D I noticed that flaw too, but i was going to be nice and not say anything! :p

Well your doing the right thing by drinking the hot fluids...

I would try Dispirin Direct...it's the melt in mouth form, found them very good for sore throats.

*Only take this if your not allergic to this medication and have taken Dispirin before!*

That normally works for me as well as dissolving a disprin on your tongue, tastes crap but it works.

I suffered from extreme sore throats beofre my tonseils were removed.

Theres a product you can buy over the counter in the chemister called Diaflam(or something like that).U can get it in spray form or mouth wash form.Mouth wash is better. It helps numb your throat and ggood thing is you can take it ever 90min-3hours.So if a sore throat is coming on you can take it.The spray form is real easy to carry round though

    Try Dispirin Direct:
It is specially formulated to dissolve on the tongue with a pleasant taste which means you can carry it with you and take it whenever pain strikes

lol i better shut up about Dispirin before people start thinking i'm a dispirin promotor :)...

There is also a medicated mouthwash called Oraldene which tends to work really well. It has a numbing effect when you use it and I find that my sore throats never last longer than a day and a half if I use it.

It tastes absolutely manky though, so if you are getting it get the mint flavour.

    Try Merocaine from the chemists.
    They are basically advanced Strepsils.
They're the best thing I've ever used to get rid of sore throats.
(And a cuppa hot tae / honey and lemon always helps :))

Gargling mouthwash and eating plain yogurt helps kill the bacteria.

The absolute best way to cure a sore throat is a mouthwash thats expensive called difflam(something to that effect). You can buy it in the chemist, its a green coloured liquid in a bottle. Its excellent for dumbing the pain and killing infection. The rest of the cures on this thread are really only semi effective and hardly eveer seem to work at all. I always use the difflam, but if you use it when you feel a sore throat coming on it can prevent it coming out full blast.

Try gargling with TCP, smells disgusting but it always works.

Oh and be sure to dilute it first...

Go to your doctor and get Calvepen antibitotics. They'll get rid of it.

The last sore throat I had was cured by two Advil, I'd advise that you don't try all the remedies suggested here together, otherwise you might end up dead !

I will have to agree, this is the best way to get rid of a sore throat. Take 3 times a day for a day and half, 1 teaspoon of TCP to 5 teaspoons of water gargle for about a minute. This truly does the trick, the smells dosent bother me anymore I actually kind of like the smell now. I know because I was dying last week with a sore throat and it worked so well.

agree on the tcp. It is vile stuff but it does the job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,890 ✭✭✭embee

Gargle with saltwater, disprin+water, tcp, listerine or Difflam mouthwash.

If you have an infection in your throat, try to avoid dairy products as they encourage mucus to form. Mucus will only harbour infection and bacteria for longer.
