Advice needed on format/reinstall (XPSP2)

Currently running WinXP SP 2, almost happily.

There's a number of things.....shall we say wrong. Nothing at all major, no virii, no spyware, stuck with 56k (nothing I can fix without moving house)

Nothing I can nail down so I can fix, and all so insigificantly minor, I'm not even bothered to really. System restore doesn't work - never use it, but it annoys me that it doesn't anyway. Norton Ghost is unable to create an image of the drive, (unknown errors) among other oddities.

On my previous machine (win98), and this one, I've had two partitions, C: for the installation, and D: for all my data. Formatting with win98 was a piece of pie, but I've not done it in XP before. Just want to format the beast reinstall, then perhaps thinking of using Ghost to save me the hassle of ever needing to again. Using a recovery CD is not an option as I have XP pro installed, and XP home as my legit copy of windows :o

I've noticed my USB stick is recognised by the BIOS/DOS whatever, boot order is set to DVD drive, removable disk, then C:, is it just a matter of creating a boot disk with USB, format C:, boot from USB and reinstall or....?

Open to suggestions on restructuring the layouts of drives, am thinking of installing another OS and dual-booting in the future.

PS: Who wants to send me a Linux CD? :)
