It's that time of the year again folks!! I feed the birds all year round, but in the winter they really need our help. This is just a reminder to all you other nature lovers out there to stock up on nuts, seed and other such items for the bird table/feeder. And don't forget a drop of water too!!

    Happy Watching!!

I feed the birds all year too. Does anybody know of the cheapest place to buy nuts?
Can you buy them in bulk anywhere?

It's best to shop around the DIY places. There are special offers all year round. I find Woodies the best. 5 kg bag of nuts for €10 last winter!!

Coming up on halloween now, CHEAP NUTS! ;)
Stock up everyone, wont take ya more than 5 mins a week and you get an amazing array of birds in your garden to marvel at! :):)

BTW, dont think you need a table etc, you dont, all you need is the food and somthing to put it on, the birds will not care lol, (hanging baskets which die off in the winter are great!).

Be careful of peanuts!! Some of them have a fungicide sprayed on them if they are for human consumption, but this is supposed to be bad for birds. Check out the Birdwatch Ireland site for info on this.

I used to hang food out for birds all the time, but in the last couple of years there's been a lot of cats wandering around my garden, so I haven't put out food in a long time for fear of what might happen.
It's a shame because I used to love seeing all the different birds in the garden :(

The cats will get a certain amount of birds even if you don't put out feed. It's best to feed the birds but try to put your feeder up in a spot where the cats can't get to it.
