hey, its been a while, have not been on here in a few years.. but on route to work this morning, via cab as was slate.. I got really annoyed at the cabbie and thought I would share my opinion with the general public, rather than go on radio..

had anyone, or does anyone think cabbies act stupid so they can get larger fares??

like, they obviously know where they are going, esp. they Dublin ones.. what else have they been doing for past god knows how many years..

and when they ask you, which way is the quickest, then insist in going via a housing estate, and slowly cruise there way to your destination.. €21.00 it cost me to get to work this morning.. i don’t really mind, but on other Saturdays it cost in and around €16.00..

makes me annoyed, like when your drunk ye never really care.. suppose having to work the occasional Saturday makes anyone cranky..

    await your views!

Did you get his name and number and receipt- if so complain to Carriage Office. Complaints and investigations: 01-6669863/4/5
If not - you should have, the only way to deal with rip offs from taxis, shops etc is to complain - no point in complaining to the taxi driver himself.

Got to agree. Its their job to know the city. People get pissed off with poor service in all other sectors but this one seems to go untouched. I'm sure this has been talked about before and I'm sure someone will point this out very soon but hay, it needs saying. Go on holidays, all cabs are top of the range, uniform cars. The drivers are clean as is the car. Half the cars in Ireland you would be afraid to sit on the seats, some driver have really poor personal hygene, a lot still smoke in the cars, and some cant even speak english or so they let on. Last thing I want to do when pissed is to give directions to someone who I am paying a (lets face it) huge amount to get me there.

Of course when you're drunk they know where to go, but when you're in a hurry for work they seem to delay as much as possible.

In saying that, a good tip is to get the personal number of a cabbie that you trust. I've got a few numbers that I ring whenever I need a taxi as I know they won't try and rip me off!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭jamiecake

Yes, I have thought of that and thank you. I have noted the number and will call them early next week.

I was just hoping to hear some other peoples stories to enlighten my day and as I have not been on this for a number of years, I do apologies for the repetition.

10 euro for a 2 mile journey once. Was less than a ten minute trip. What a rip-off.

Hate when they pretend not to know where to go. What sort of eejits do they take us for?

Id rather walk than get a taxi in Waterford ever again , Few months back before I had the car meself an the bf decided to go to kfc its roughly a 10 min drive , a town run should cost €5.20 so anyway he starts goin this arsew*ys route we were like na go that way its way handier , he continues cursing at other drivers and hitting the steering wheel takes his bloody out of the way route and stings us for a tennar when we get there , I was goin mental , been avoiding taxi`s since , different price every time ya get in even for the same routes , like who the hell regulates theses guys?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭jamiecake

ha!! excellent! i can smell the frustration..grr..

my bf always wants to tip them!! drives me mental..

was just thinking, if i was a cabbie, id prob be doing the same thing to get more doe... but still, fu*k off like!

but.. they prob cant do anything if we run out of the cab.. most of them are too fat to see there own feet!! :D

why the hell would he want to tip them ? There just providing a service why would ya pay them extra on top of them already ripping ya off?
Yea I avoid them now , firstly I dont like getting ripped off and secondly the last number of taxi`s I got down here were driven by completely ignorant people who did nothing only give about learner drivers all the way home , Just because they have a yellow plate stuck to their car dont mean they have more of a right to the road than other people .

From work I know that a lot of them still carry wepons under their seats. I really would not like to mess with them, I mean your friendly driver could be the Monk, God bless his hard working soul!
Do you ever get the ones that wheeze and puff there way around every corner and pot hole? The thoughts of having to give mouth to mouth to one cause a cat ran out in front of him.......hummmmm!

the thought of giving a cabbie mouth to mouth has just put me off my lunch.....

thats a good realisation.. i never thought that "ye never know who your cabbie is.." lol be hilarous to be chased by one tho.. sorta..

and as for tipping... i know... i wish i earned €20.00 for a 15min saturday morning drive...

    bbbeeeaaaahhhhh

Who is the regular in Waterford and outside the capital?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭grimloch

Only time they're worthwhile is when you're sharing the fare between 2 or 3.

No bloody was would I get one home from work, if I was still employed. Woudl cost about 30 euro.

Ye Know, you have got me thinking and I really hate the bastards. I hate the way they find it impossible to flick that one little switch to turn off or on the roof light. Too busy touching the extra button on the meter. If you are a cabbie and are reading this, fair play, you are more educated than the rest of you useless bunch of tools.
I am now going outside to book loads of cabs from payphone for no reason what-so-ever.Girrrrrrrrrr

Half the cars in Ireland you would be afraid to sit on the seats 'cos the great Irish drinking public, yes you young girls and guys like to DEFECATE on said seats!! Ask any psv driver who works weekends!! Go look at the psv carriage fees, you will find they are set rates, so thats crap about being (lets face it) a huge amount.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 195 ✭✭nedoo

    Theres always one!
Half the beds in Irish hotels are not fit for sleeping in after weekends but they have to replace them. Look at the back of the doors. They have set rates too. If you provide an expensive service, provide what the customer is paying for, regardless of the pitfalls of your job. I pay for a clean and comfartable ride home by the shortest route. How many people can say they get that from Irish Taxis?

The cabbie would be told in no uncertain terms what to do with himself if he tried that one.

Has this actually happened to anyone btw?

Oh yes it has been tried.

The line from the cabbie in broken english was "2 people! you pay double!"

He got €10 and no more. He then started to curse us out of it in some eastern european langauge.

Well fair play for doing that. It wouldn't be too surprising for some Irish people to actually take that and pay the money.

    lets all bycote cabbie$....................... :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 195 ✭✭nedoo

na.. lets just question their every move, ask for reciepts always and complain about the smell, their driving, their language, their attitudes.............................will do nothing but will be a bit of crack. Sit in their car and pretend to take notes on everything and take swab samples from their seats.
Anybody think I'm taking this a little too far? :p

hahaha.. not at all!! refill pads for everyone!! this is excellent progress my fellow cab begrudgers...

Well just thank God that you're not a tourist, it's them that they really screw over.

In college (UCD) during the year, I read an article in one of the college papers about some guy who did an experiment to see how much they rip off tourists. He got in a taxi in town, and pretended to be foreign and asked to go to UCD. The taxi driver brought him there but drove past two entrances before bringing him in the main entrance.

f*ck... that deserves to be published... did he tear his head off when he paid??
