Researchers in Singapore have developed a paper battery that is powered by urine

the breakthrough promises a cheap and disposable power source for home health tests for things like diabetes.

Anyone know if this actually uses the urine as anything other than a conductive solution ?

What else would they use it for? That's all a battery is: two different elements at each end, a conductive solution/paste between them and a case to hold it all together, e.g. a normal alkaline battery has manganese dioxide at the + end, potassium hydroxide water in the middle and powdered zinc at the - end.

If they can manage to mass produce it though, they could they not use them as a means of taking energy out of the waste being processed by sewerage plants?
