Formula One 2003

I bought a PS2 at the weekend and given that Psygnosis' Formula One and Formula One '97 were two of my favourite games for the original PlayStation I picked up a second hand copy of this title.

    It's a terrible let down.

The handling of the cars on the easy setting is far too sensitive. The damage model makes no sense (bashed by Coulthard nothing breaks, graze the wall and lose tyre/front wing/nose cone). The difficulty curve is way too steep and for a beginner there is no enjoyment whatsoever. James Allen and Martin Brundle employed to commentate... but only on replay... why bother???

I know I should get myself a cheap ass copy of TOCA 2 or GT3 but I love my F1 so... any PS2 F1 recommndations? Or should I go back to Formula One '97 when Villeneuve was Driver One, Hockenheim was the fastest track on the calendar and Murray was in the commentary seat.

I don't own my own PC; I'm holding out until next year when the HSE will buy me one!

I'm enjoying Formula One 2003 on the PS2 a little more now. I'm doing a Schumi, concentrating on securing pole, blasting off into the distance and styaing clear of the challengers behind because any tangle is bound to end in tears. Except I'm doing this with McLaren as the car seems to be the best balanced in the game.
