Tackling sound latency

    Hey folks

I'm into sound recording, editing etc using Cubase and VST software plugins. Im using a Pentium 4 Dell laptop, XP professional with plenty of RAM etc. Trouble is, I'm getting huge amounts of latency with both audio and MIDI monitoring. I've tried installing ASIO drivers I found on the web but I think the crappy onboard sound is the problem.

I was wondering if getting an external (USB or PCMCIA) soundcard with the appropriate drivers might solve this problem? This product looks interesting: Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS Notebook PCMCIA

Anyone got any hints? Anyone got experience with this? Cheers
