Bad play but why

Pick the bones of this one please. Pretty sure I played it badly but how and why I'm not so sure. Villain is loose passive player.

Shortstacks excellent Drogheda Tourney €25 rebuy last nite. Level 4 100 / 200 first hand after break I have 6700 chips about average I think.
In the SB I have AKo 2 MP limp I raise to 1000 BB folds as does one of the limpers. Two see a flop 7 5 8 rainbow, I check limper checks. 4th street is Q and I bet at it 1500 ( pot 2400 ) limper flat calls. My thoughts on the villain thus far in the hand.

small pair hits set on flop would he bet the flop / raise the turn

small connectors hit str8 on flop would he bet the flop / raise the turn

Q hit on turn would he bet the flop / raise the turn

overpair to board would he bet the flop / raise the turn

River is 2 no flush I put him all in for 2800 he calls eventually and takes the pot

You played it well until the river. The 2 didnt change anything, so if he called the turn he should call the river. Unless you have a read that your opponent is weak or there is an obvious hand you can represent then you shouldnt bluff.

Personally I'm going to bet the flop rather than the turn here. Fair enough, a good player will probably read your bet as a missed big-Ace, but I get the feeling that this player isn't all that good. Also, like HJ says, the bet on the end makes no sense.

What HJ says is totally right. If I was allowed to play in that game I doubt I would be bluffing on the river. most of the players I have seen there will call all the way once they have called on the flop or the turn.

Interestingly I saw your son lose all his chips in almost exactly the same way last night but with AQ instead of AK, who is teaching who?

Thanks guys. I do agree the bet on the end was foolish at best but I am pleased to hear I got it right to that point although betting the flop is a debateable point as lenny rightly points out.
Well the villain took down the pot with 7 5 os flopping two pair.

I'm with Lenny, I think a bet on the flop would have been a better move.
