Its about time, The man was & still is a true Legend.

Yeah some people are saying that he was a true English man , but just cause he was born in England doesnt make it so, he was proud to be Irish and reminded every other country about us

The unveiling is a 6:30, by his mother. They are doing a piece on it on Five Seven Live on RTE Radio 1 as I type. I'll be in town later, so I'll have a look.

I want a 500ft statue of Godzilla instead of that stupid spire. And the original Godzilla! Not that Hollywood abortion.

would love to see a statue of Damien Dempsey erected in Donaghmede shopping centre...Damo in striking pose, guitar in hand...instead of the 'dancing children' spinning. Anyone agree?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Damien Dempsey? Dear god why!? Shoot the bastard tbh.

i quite like the spire, its good if your a newbie in the city centre if you get lost.

I hope they erect a statue of Ronnie drew whe he croaks, he deserves one

Are you telling me you wouldn't be able to see a 500ft Godzilla statue!?!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,606 ✭✭✭djmarkus

i would but i'm sure it would cost a bit more than the spire, therefore making it not feesable

Looks very nice. Phil's mammy deserves it. Has anyone seen her on TV? Very nice lady apparently

I saw it tonight. There was a crowd around it. An American couple were standing nearby and I heard them asking who he was. I told the woman it was Phil Lynott. She had never heard of him. I told her he was a very famous Irish Rock star. She asked me was he dead? :)

I hope you told her that he was only frozen in carbonite.

Actually I'd like to see a statue of Robocop in the city centre... Robocop was Irish.

The Roisin Dubh Trust paid for the statue and I'm proud to say that we played at the very first fundraising gig in Fibbers, Febuary 2001. Ourselves, "I can't believe it's not Lizzy" and Celtic Legacy. A girl called Audrey O'Neill pretty much got the whole statue thing up and running single handedly. I've yet to see the statue though. Well done..

Ahhh the penguins. Was kinda thinking, maybe not just Damo. Sinead O'Connor, Donal Lunny and Damo holding hands and spinning, dressed in penguin outfits....has to be an improvement, and they could leave it there all year round!

Are you telling me you wouldn't be able to see a 500ft Godzilla statue!?!?

I like that, sure you could make it with plastic. That would be dirt cheap.

But then again, some gurrier might set it on fire. Red hot, molten green plastic flowing through the streets. Sure that would destroy the city.

Yeah but when the real godzilla ransacks Dublin, it would just get confusing.

They have been trying for a few years to get a statue for Rory.

There is a hold up on it because the building that its going to be on/near are objecting.

Was around the area last night and it was getting mobbed still at 12 at night! Talking to 2 swedish dudes who had come over especially!! MAdness!

Looks a bit strange if you ask me but I think there should be more statues like that dotted around the city. Help educate people on Irish history and culture.

I took this photo of the statue on Sunday:

My colleague reckons the statue bears a closer resemblence to Willy Wonka than Phil.

they should stick a big statue of pat kenny up holding a micky mouse umbrella. a big 300ft high one. in that way when its lashing rain every one can get shelter by pats giant umbrella.
