Can anyone tell me what a "Network Operating System Analyst" is?
Someone on boards from dell said theyd forward my cv on for any technical support type jobs going. Got this mail today. Is this just a fancy work for that or is it something completely different. It sounds like one of 3 or 4 possible things to me, any light shed on this would be appreciated!

    Hi XXXXXXX

Your CV was referred to us by XXXXXXXX for a Network Operating System Analyst.

The next step for you application is to take a technical test. The technical test will take approximately 30 minutes and will concentrate solely on your technical skills and knowledge.

If you could please let me know your availability for this technical test and the best phone number for this test to take place on, it would be greatly appreciated.

I look forward to hearing from you

just found one on the site after a lot of looking
    "
    Knowledge, Skills&Abilities

    * Excellent working knowledge of enterprise back-up solution (Netbackup, Backup Exe, Legato Networker)
    * Advanced knowledge of networking (including WAN topology, mixed LAN/WAN operating system environments
    * Superior knowledge of at least 2 and advanced knowledge of at least 2 more of the following: NT, W2K, W2K3, RedHat or SuSE Linu, MS Exchange, SQL, IIS, Clustering
    * Good working knowledge of server hardware (including SCSI, RAID and I/O topology)
    * Good working knowledge of storage hardware (including Fibre channel, clustering etc)

I honestly dont have much experience of any of those things tbh, just dont have enough experience yet. Would you still do the technical test in that case?

This is my job in Dell, it is very interesting. Did you send your CV to me?

I would reccommend that you do the tech test anyway, you have nothing to lose. If you do not score well enough for the NOS team you will probably get passed onto the server team. It is not quite as technically demanding but will give good oportunity to learn.

If you want a bit more detail, here goes. The NOS team looks after enterprise software support for Dell customers that have purchased certain additional warranty options. It is a back office team, this means that we do not take calls as such. Other teams take calls on the "frontline." Certain calls will be escalated to us, providing the customer has NOS entitlement, if it is obviously a software problem ( sometimes not a obvious as you might think,) or if the hardware teams have tried everything they can reasonably be expected to but the problem persists.

It is a pretty cools job. The team is really good, everyone is really switched on. There is quite a variance in the cases you could be handleing. We do not deal with any client stuff. You will not get a case because one muppet's XP system won't boot.

For the most part thing are OK, it can get a bit stressfull. Like most support jobs, some of the cases we get can involve entire businesses being offline. Even they are kind of fun in their own weird way.

The company itself is pretty good to work for. I think they are probably the only big IT company recruiting at the moment. Even if you might not get into NOS right now I would reccommend that you try.

I never worked in silver but I know a few guys that do. If you are looking for something easy then this is not it.

You would be pretty busy. The thing is, in Dell if you don't mind working and have a bit of cop you can do well. There are loads of oportunity. It is a bit sh1t on the phones but if you put the effort in there are plenty of backoffice jobs.

As a company they are pretty good and there really are loads of options.

    Yeah, they are my initials.

FOr the test it depends on who you get. You will probably be asked a few questions on active directory and AD troubleshooting, exchange, networking and stuff like that. You will probably be asked general questions on backups and backup troubleshooting and also general troubleshooting methods.
