Didn't Einstein say " Space is like idiocy endless"

As a reckless stupid teen I did some pretty stupid things. The trend to try experimental drugs is one of the latest things I don't think I will understand ever.

Almost as bad as something I heard not that long ago.
As far as I know it is an extreme sport, just cant remember the name.
It's basically some idiot jumping from building to building, off high walls etc... without the saftey of a harness or anything like that.
It's quite big in the US, and loads of kids have stared doing it here. I think they showed a piece on this on TV a while ago, putting the idea into kids' heads.

Some kid almost impaled himself on the gates of Wesley College trying to jump the pillars! The twat got away with a few broken bones, but was found 2 weeks later, sitting on the roor of his house by his mother!
    Clever kid!!!

I've tried it once before. You do get a high from it, it lasts about 2 minutes. The oxygen is cut off from your brain and you pass out.

Tis a bit of a waste of time really and you lose a lot of bran sells.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

You'd have to had lost a lot of brain cells to try it in the first place.

    What fools.

Reminds me of the video here a while ago I think where a youth decided it would be a hoot to powerslam his friend off the roof of his house onto a table.

    Quite injured I believe.

There are limits to even what peer pressure should have people do Daywalker. If friends suggested trying to almost hang themselves for a bit of fun I think most people should have the common sense not to do so.

    Parkour or free-running.

The idea it is NOT to look cool and jump off high sh*t though, its actually all about freedom of movement, fluid movement and getting from one place to another as fast as possible using the environment around you.
    **SIGH**
Some fools like the guy you mentioned dont seem to understand that though.

That was big when I was in primary school (10 odd years back now, jasus), didnt involve a fckin bike chain tho. involved cutting off the supply of oxygen by taking deep breaths then forcibly holding the wind pipe closed by applying pressure to the neck from both hands. One kid went into hospital cos he didnt come to after the usual 10 seconds or so. Stupid things we do when kids. But then again, some people still do it during sex, its a form of asphyxiation (sp?) I believe.
Strange feeling tho, you dont remember that youve ever even lived when u come to, takes about 20 seconds for it all to come back to you.
Im sure its extremelly dangerous at the end of the day, suprised noone in my school ended up dead.

Is the stigma of suicide so high in some families that they have to start inventing nonsense like 'the choking game'? What's next 'the my kid was stolen by gypsies game' and 'the daddy has a crayon up my ass game'?

There's definetly material here for a South Park episode anyway!

Yep, that's sounds kinda familiar, cheers.

Have heard of loads of kids doing this, but not for the reasons stated above.

There is a bit of a following for parkour in ireland alright -
most traceurs can be found here
    http://www.parkour-ireland.com/

The difference of course being that these guys encourage people to do it SAFELY, not to go jumping off roofs like gob****es

(oh - and it originated in France iirc for the record ;) )

    was thinking the same thing.

either that or a darwin award at the very least.

who'd try and make themselves pass out by hanging themselves whilst in a room on their own? darwinism at its most simple.

we used to do something similar when I was a teenager, but we smart enough (barely, obviously) to squat down and take 10 deep breaths followed by a bearhug from a friend who would then lay uoi down while you came to.

who'd be stupid enough to do it on their own? with a bike chain?

What i don't get is that at the start it says that the parents had no idea then at the bottom it says they believe she was at it for a year or 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,997 ✭✭✭jaggeh

they probably asked her friends how long she was at it.

I see a few people do remember the 'American Dream', as it was called in my day. No need for ropes or any of that crap.

Obviously these kids were unable to get a hold of any decent drugs, and just look what happens... Abstinence KILLS!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

i have to side with pigman on this...it does seem to be covering up a suicide. They name off a series of other dates blamed on the 'choking game' and it just doesnt add up.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,349 ✭✭✭nobodythere

Reminds me of Fight Club, kids who are so disconnected from true reality because of the way society is (Ted Kazinski style) that they need something else to get their rush and to feel alive.

did something like that before bout 13yrs ago, put pressure on the heart though not hanging. led to passing out and a "high" but i reckon most o the people were just saying that. some were really out of it though, I know cos we tested. dont ask ;) !
