In your life so far, would you consider yourself too have been LUCKY or UNLUCKY ?...

Im my own life, I consider that I have been extremely Lucky , I achieved my life's ambition's beyond my wildest dream's.

Although, I suffered my fair share of down's, I believe most of my bad time's were 'Self inflicted' even my serious health problem's.

Overall, in the scheme of thing's I do not consider that I 'Drew the short straw'.

    What about you ?...

In the grand scheme of things, yes. I'm only young but am lucky to be in a nice house, have great parents, like my school and enjoy myself for the most part.

i feel i'm lucky too... i'm alive, healthy, have a good family, friend, have everything i need etc

got my leaving cert results yesterday, decided to buy a scratch card and won €2 then bought another one and won a free one and then bought another one and won nothing. myself and my friend did the lotto then (because of the day that was in it!) but i don't think we won anything.

Lucky as far as exam results, unluckt as in i've broken the same wrist twice, the other wrist once, broken both legs at the same time, and got torn ligements in my foot once, and im only 20!

Lucky insofar as where I am now. It's insane where some of life's choices take you - in a good way for me so far anyways.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

I got 4 numbers in the Lotto last night (€47) so I suppose that was lucky. Or was I unlucky not to get the other 2? :)

We all have luck in our life, both good and bad. Your attitude is what is important.

I'm pretty lucky, but in a jammy **** sense. When I was like 12ish, I was picking random numbers for my mam to use in the local lotto or something, anyway I picked the 6 winning numbers and won around E3000 :)

Well I like to think that luck doesnt exists
its all about your persepective and your chocies

    BUT
seeing how my life has gone, considering certain things I didnt really have control over (or maybe I did), I'll say unlucky

honestly though, the concept of luck is all in your head
your life, your choices....its in your hands

    Overall Lucky I guess
*Got the results in school i needed
    *Doing a course I enjoy
    etc etc.

Especially lucky last november, I walked out of a car crash that probably should have killed me, rolled a car three times and came down on the roof, people who saw the crash were convinced i was dead but I walked out without a scratch. So yeah, lucky.

I consider myself really lucky, in many senses
1 is I play slot machines and win constantly, great money for me and always seem to win raffles etc
Lucky in the big sense that I live in 1 of the wealthiest countries in the world in a nice house with good family and secure environment, I can honestly say that nothing bad has happened to me healthwise or any deaths in the family etc even the geneal ups and down of life, usually ups for me and I have almost a strange guilt complex that I have not really experienced any bad luck as they say through adversity do you become a stronger person.
    Does anyone else feel that?

I would consider myself lucky but its all about perspective, some of my friends would say I am one of the unluckiest people they know, but I would disagree, I survived being knocked down by a car, despite serious injuries I survived and am happy and well so I would say I am really lucky, OK i didn't win the lotto but there is still hope :o

I would consider myself very unlucky - this year especially.
    Please bear in mind that what I write has all happened since September last;

My father was critically ill twice and as I type, he is ill for the third time and in surgery and might be dead by the time I finish this post.

I deferred my exams to Autumn as Dad was sick in MAy and now I'm in the middle of my exams and this has happened again

Today (the day of surgery) also HAPPENS to be my worst exam

I had glandular fever twice this year

Got abandoned in a foreign country

Had a cyst removed in an emergency surgery

Broke up with two guys who both treated me like ****

Have the pressue of my finals on me now

After thinking about the question posed here I have now come to the conclusion that its not a case of whether your lucky or unlucky but whether you have an optimistic or pessimistic output on life in general.

Almost every example has a flip-side - for (bad) example
I crashed my car badly (as stated in previous post)
OPTIMIST - I'm alive, not hurt.
PESSIMIST - MY F*CKING CAR IS RUINED !!!

Optimism and pessimissm simply don't come into it sometimes. I have been so optimistic when the **** hits the fan but I simply cannot cope anymore and can no longer have optimism

I won a 3500euro in a placepot for 50cent(where you pick a horse to be placed in 6 races) it was the cheltenham metting on the tuesday of this year.I just studyed the form for about 2 hours picked 6 horses put it down on the betting slip. I should of put more money on it only for i had already put 50euro on another horse dabiroun which won at 20/1 which my good friend nina carbbery rode.I also won 1000 off that horse. So it was a good day for lucky me!I put on around 52euro including tax and i won 4500.Before that i also won hundreds and thousands here and there over the years doing lucky15 where you pick 4 horses to win.

Im very lucky when it come to gambling(its more of a gift i would say than luck). On the other hand i am very unlucky when it comes to exams and friends that died.I failed 1 first year exam by 3% and they would not pass me.I repeated the year where they added on another subject computer architecture which i failed and now i have to repeat it monday and i might fail again. Also some of you may know that i am a jockey who has had its fair share of troubles.Ive had two good friends of mine get killed in a riding accident where they fell hard on there heads which lead to fatal brain damage doing what they loved best, being a jockey.Ive also had my own injurys where i have injured my knee now for the last three years. This year after i came back riding,my first ride fell at the first fence where i teared my acl(anterior cruciate ligament) again for the third year in a row.I may now have to retire from what i love doing best.I went to college as a back up plan if i got injured and now i am on the verge of failing. What am i left to do?

I would have to say that i am 100% lucky when it comes to gambling.
0% when it comes down to exams and being a jockey.Im also very unlucky in love where ive had very bad break ups in the past.

I'd consider myself lucky. I've got great friends, my family are all in good health and my love life, even though it lulled for a while is really progressing. True, I've never won any money in the lotto or anything but what do I care? I'm happy the way things are.

Ooh..in the grand scheme of things, I've got things pretty good at the moment, but in little details, I couldn't win anything if my life depended on it. Also, you know, had a few serious illness/accidents and family members in perilous situations (oh my!) But I'm alive and happy (and so are my family, for now, eek!), and having fun, which is the main thing. Tbh, if I don't think too hard, life is good. Oh, I'm all cheerful now...

had cancer at 12, in and out of hospital to have a shunt replaced (tube that removes fluid from the brain) 5 or six times, found out my step - father was a heroine addict, no longer around.. but all in all i've got some great friends, my mothers a legend, my two brothers are cool...

basically no matter what you've been through, theres always people out there suffering 10 times what your suffering much worse... its how you deal with your problems that make you strong.. i love life and live it to the fullest and if i was given the power to change it i wouldnt... lucky!!! yea i'm lucky...

ok lads this might not make any sence but here goes

to be honest i think you decide on the length of your straw at the end of the day anyone is capable of doing anything they want. you just have to motivate yourself in the right way, i know people looking at me would probably say to me that i drew the short straw alot of bad things have happened in my life. sh1t that you couldnt even imagine, but the thing is, sh1t happens every day, to everyone, sh1t happens and keeps on happening untill your dead, but the good thing is you get little snippets of the good life along the way. i just thank my lucky stars im alive and still goin, and hopefully ill be going for another few years yet.

your dealt the hand you were dealt.. its not a bad hand or a good hand. its up to you, you either go for it and make it a winning one. or you fold, and moan about how crappy your life is and not make any difference to it whatsoever.
