    Hey alll,

I'm sure this has been discussed to high heaven before but I just want to clarify the issue of which processer to go for in a laptop.

Centrino M, Celeron M, normal Pentium (probably not), AMD mobile sempron, etc...which would be the one that would give the best performance for a mobile computer?

by which I mean, battery life and processing speed, both nicely balanced.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks

It really depends on what exactly you mean by "best performance". Also depends on what you want to use the laptop for, and how much you want to spend.

I am using an AMD Turion64 chip and imho its excellent... I'm delighted I went AMD. I also have the "geek cred" factor that I can run Windows XP64 and a few other Linux64 bit distros.

Well, I'd like to be able to run fairly powerful programs for a reasonable length of time on the battery.

I'll look out for AMD chips.

Have a look at the Acer stuff available at http://www.acer.ie/acereuro/page3.do?dau7.oid=122&UserCtxParam=0&GroupCtxParam=0&dctx1=17&ctx1=UK&crc=1469313021

They have good laptops with a range of processors at an excellent price.

Centrino will give the best performance in terms of battery for a slight hit on processor performance.
