Hopes for treating disease with stem cells from umbilical cord blood has received a major boost, following the discovery of primitive cells with clinical potential matching that of the far more controversial embryonic stem cells (ESCs). The latter are originally derived from human fetuses, which are then destroyed, and have become a major ethical issue, especially in the US.

Linkage: Advances made in stem cell research using cells using blood from umbiblical cords.

If it works, it works and is excellent news, however, one cannot come away from the true pluripotency of embryonic stem cells that can form ANY tissue. I believe the ends justify the means with embryonic stem cells and the legion of diseases that can be cured is astonishing

I agree with you totally. I think that the "spare" embryos from IVF treatments should be made available for stem cell research (provided those getting the IVF treatment agree). These embryos would normally be destroyed so why not use them for some good?

because it wouldn't end there. soon you'll get those people out to make some money who take part in ivf with no intention of having a child and selling the embryos for scientific research. the end absolutely does not justify the means. there has to be another means
