Seller not responding to email after purchase - what to do?

I won an auction yesterday and sent the seller a couple of emails to confirm the shipping total but I've got no response. The seller doesn't have any negative feedback but I don't want to send off money to someone who can't even reply to a simple email.

    What should I do?

I'd give it 48 hours from when the acution has ended to wait, after which i'd cut and run.

Indeed - PC's blow up, phone lines go down, life happens. Give it a period of time before making a desicion

Usually most seller specify a period of time from the end of auction which you have to pay (eg. up to 7 days after)

Request a total from him - I find that usually works. Remember s/he could be away for a day or two.

some sellers can be a bit chaotic but deliver the goods as advertised in the end , I would not worry at all unless they disappeared for 72 hours straight after they got the money.

also remember that they may need to find out the full shipping cost to Ireland before they invoice you the grand total to your paypal account .

I've been waiting 3 weeks for seller to confirm shipping - can I still retract the bid? I mailed them 3 days ago again and still nothing!

I bought a load of phones off ebay before and used to request a total including shipping to Ireland from them. But then I just started paying the requested total for UK shipping, only 1 out of about 10 sellers would actually come back and ask for the extra 2 quid they had to spend to get it sent to Ireland. The shortest I was waiting for an item was 3 days and the longest was 3 weeks, both for nothing but a phone. It depends really if the seller is a lazy b@stard and doesn't ship it until he feels like it.

In this case, like mentioned above, chill out a bit, the guy might only have internet access at work (one of my co-workers is a power seller and has no internet access at home, he makes the same off ebay that he does in wages nearly), wait a week and if you still heard nothing back, email him and tell him you're refusing to cough up. Keep copies of all your sent items etc, just for paranoias sake....

    This happened to me once.

Really seemed strange, so I called the seller (in Quebec) turn out my email server was bouncing his mails as SPAM because of the ISP he was posting from.

    Good arrived fine after that

After three weeks I would retract my bid.
You might like to put a post on one of the 'community' boards on eBay first, telling them what attempts you have made to contact them etc. and asking what they think. Some of them are eBay staff and can run checks on people.

When emailing to ask for shipping costs etc., always check the 'send me a copy of this mail' box.

Here is the actual ebay proceedure:

    http://pages.ebay.ie/help/buy/questions/wait-contact.html

It's obscure and convoluted I know...maybe best to just skip to "ask a question" at the foot of the page?

The seller finally got back to me after 3 days or so to confirm shipping price. I made the payment and asked them to email me when they shipped the item. That was three days ago and I've heard nothing back since even after two more emails.

If I actually ever get the item the best they're going to get is neutral feedback.

If you have already paid there is a much better ebay proceedure when goods not recieved:

    http://pages.ebay.com/help/tp/inr-snad-process.html

But give it at LEAST 10 days after seller would have recieved money (how long that is depends on payment method).

...then you get the same in return (assuming he/she even bothers leaving any)...the feedback system has it's faults.
This seller sounds like someone I dealt with once....either too lazy or too busy to bother replying to anything you send.
