Does anyone know between what hours construction work is allowed to take place by law?

I live in a new apartment and there is lots of building going on of new apartments, which starts at 6am (sometimes earlier...!) and goes on til nearly MIDNIGHT, even on weekends.

I work shifts and it really disturbs me when i'm woken up 4 hours early and can't get back to sleep cos of the noise.

i thought heavy work (ie drilling, etc) was only allowed from 8am to 8pm
light work can be at whatever time you like afaik.

this can be a patchy area though, if an inspector came out about it then the builder can then refuse because of a deadline and then someone will be loosing a lot of money

ive heard 6 till 10 but till midnight is mad

Sometimes their working hours are part of the planning permissions. See if you can check this. If not Im sure you can still make a complaint to the relevant people (environment health?) about the noise pollution outside of normal working hours.

Tonight, buy some €1 earplugs in the pharmacy.

Tomorrow, talk to the council planning department and then the environmental health department.

Contact the Environment/Noise Pollution section of your local council.

I contacted mine about a neighbour's dog's constant barking. Dog Warden was around a few hours later and the barking has decreased dramatically.

Yea, it would have been stated in the planning permission, and if you didn't complain before it was granted I'd say you're stuck tbh. Do what victor said, get some ear plugs.
