Removing Unwanted programs

    not specifically no......for most apps just delete the application file/folder and thats it. If you're thorough about it delete the corresponding folder in the Application Support folders both in your Library folder and the main Library folder on the HD. Also remove the entry from the Preferences folders...typically something like com.microsoft.****

    thanks but when i go to delete certain things it says its owned by the root, even changing its properties wont work. before you say it i know not to delete system files but this is from nortons and i want to get rid of it

    are you an administrator user of the machine??? best thing to do in that instance is to go to your NetInfo Manager utility and enable the root user, it may ask you to enter a password, careful you don't forget! Logout and re-login as root, you'll have to type is root as the username as it won't come up as a clickable icon. Delete to your hearts content, then login again as yourself. Actually while logged in as root make sure your user account is set as an administrator account.

    You may need to stop any services running from Nortons too !
    In: Preferences > Accounts > Login Items make sure Norton is un-ticked. Also start: <Hard Disk> Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor and check if any of Nortons components are running.

    Some applications actually include an uninstaller which is accessed by starting the installer where you may find the remove option. May be worth a try.
