So i'm going to be doing a two week drive around Scandinavia in a camper van. I was planning on bringing my laptop and i was wondering if anyone knew if there is any kind of downloadable software i could use to plan my route on the go instead of printing loads of stuff off the internet before i leave? Cheers

If you don't have a definite route planned out or if you're going to be straying off your intended path all the time, there's really no substitute for a big thick road atlas.

Most roadmap software kits are commercial products. I don't know of any freely downloadable ones.

try mapopolis, you can download the software for free but the maps have a time limit on them unless you pay. works great on PDAs not too sure ablout laptops.

If you've got net access while your travelling (maybe at wi-fi hotspots) you could use www.maps.msn.co.uk
Say you'll have trouble findin some free downloadable software with free maps of Scandanavia

I'm about to purchase software plus GPS and I am getting

Infomap Navigator 4.3 EU with a GPS USB receiver.. package prce for abut GBP135

It will read out the voice commands for you.

Just get a 12V cigarette socket plug-in for your laptop for 3299 from Maplins (Blanch are out of stock!) and you have full GPS system for EU with audible voice!

Here is what I'm talking about:

You don't know what maps they use? Like whats the coverage like for Ireland?

Coverage for Ireland (cities and main towns) is very good. See some screenshots of Irish towns here:

not sure what maps they take but I think that site lists the coverage by country.

For Ireland you will be get cities and main roads... anything after that is dodgy. For EU countries you will get 100% down to postcode and street number.

You can also load Point of Interest databases... i.e. speed camera locations, lists of businesses etc.

So you could be drivig along and get it to alert you when there is a (for example) hospital within 10 miles of you... and hit a button to route you there.

Check out www.gpsw.co.uk and others for more information.

Just checked and Ireland has 45% coverage on that software.
